I would like to gift something useful to my father-in-law this Christimas. My mother-in-law too (she's getting a new broom!:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:).

But, as usual, I am wandering....So, he is into woodworking. Makes lots of things. Too bad his son takes after the mother

Anyway, father-in-law has made me two very nice cutting boards, a spice rack and a few other items. He has some specialized tools and I have bought him a couple, such as a sawset and a bevel and a very expensive Atoma diamond sharpening stone from Japan.

I have bought them all from Lee Valley
    Home - Lee Valley Tools

He seems to have loved all of those, but I got advice on what to buy from his brother, who is no longer around.

I am getting no help from my husband, and I really would like to keep it somewhat a secret....\]

So, is there something a woodworker hobbyist would really like, but is unlikely to buy for themselves, since they could make do without it....or just something they would like, but would not buy for themselves.

I would be taking a chance, but it could always be returned. Or, I saw the jump pack thread. I know they do not have those (Are brooms 12v or 6v?).

LVT has a set of saw sharpening files, happened to catch my eye. He might have something like that already, you'd need to check it out.

There's also a sweet compass (circle scribing ilk) that might be of interest. Same caveats apply.

I think Samatha from Bewitched had a 40 volt broom. I've never seen a 6 or 12 volt broom before.

In case you're still looking a good stocking stuffer, any woodworker can always use more sandpaper. P 40 to 220 grit on wood seems to gets used most.
Other things might be an electric sander, router, jig or circular saw, miter box and back saw kit.
He might already have some or all of my suggestions, it's hard to dial into what would be the best tool to complement the broom.

So, your father-in-law is a woodworker? Why are you being worried? Give him a game changer woodworking tool. As a veteran carpenter, I know how special woodworking tools are to a woodworker. It's hard to recommend you a tool without knowing your budget but according to his projects, a dowel jig can be a best gift idea for him. Do you know why dowel jigs are used for? To drill holes or to join woods. No doubt, a dowel jig will help his craftsmanship. So, close your eyes and order a premium model at Drillly!

i have several dowling jigs, and never go a day without using one of them. they are so useful.

i recommend everyone keep a set in their emergency tool kit as well. they come in handy for so many things, like a flat tire or dead 12v battery

Note that this is an unlabeled advertisement from an owner of the website, not a recommendation from any fellow Prius owner:

My first hard clue was the model of Prius he claims to own, a version that doesn't exist:

I didn't necessary mean that one shouldn't order from him. Just beware that he appears to have come here specifically to advertise his business, not to share Prius experiences.

    Gee...
How have I lived all these years without them???

    I'm a hopeless optomist by nature, but still.......it's 2020.

Don't buy those presents TOO early this year...... ;)
