    • Toyota enhances the global ambassador for the future of the automobile with new style and features, starting at just $27,990 MSRP
    • The all-new Toyota Prius AWD-e starts at just $28,990 MSRP, featuring innovative technology that offers superior control in rain and snow while maintaining impressive fuel efficiency

TORONTO, ON – February 1, 2019 – Canadians already love the cleaner performance and remarkable fuel efficiency of the Toyota Prius – the world’s most popular gasoline-electric hybrid vehicle. Now, Toyota is giving drivers new reasons to embrace the icon of futuristic motoring, as the 2019 Prius lineup introduces an innovative all-new AWD-e system that boosts control when the weather turns foul. To celebrate, Toyota Canada is offering the 2019 Prius lineup – in front wheel drive and all-wheel-drive editions – at starting MSRPs that make Prius hard to resist.

“We’re enhancing all Prius models with additional features and fresh styling for 2019 – but the big news is the combination of Prius hybrid performance and Toyota’s state of the art electric all-wheel-drive system – AWD-e,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “Canadians love the added confidence of all-wheel-drive and this year, the Prius becomes the first hybrid passenger car in the country to offer power and control at all four corners. Best of all, we are offering the Prius AWD-e at a surprisingly affordable price – so much so, that we anticipate all-wheel-drive models will account for almost two-thirds of our Prius liftback sales this year.”

The 2019 Prius is built around the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) – a design and engineering system that closely integrates body and powertrain development to deliver bolder styling, better handling and efficiency, and superior comfort and safety.

For 2019, all Prius models feature newly refined front and rear body styling, including revised headlamps and tail lamps, along with new, grade-specific wheel designs and two new available colours: Supersonic Red and Electric Storm Blue. The 2019 Prius maintains its sharp silhouette, with a wind-cheating shape that contributes to its remarkable fuel efficiency: just 4.4 L / 100 km for the FWD models, and 4.7 L / 100 km for the AWD-e models. (City/Highway combined.)

Inside, every 2019 Prius receives a fresh look with new, black accents through the cabin, including the steering wheel and centre console. Notably, all models offer impressive interior space, with room for 1,855 L of cargo when the 60/40 split rear seats are folded: That’s more than in some small SUVs and most full-size sedans!

Inside and out, the 2019 Prius is a high-tech wonder – yet designed for ease of use. All models feature dual 4.2” full-colour multi-information displays which offer up information such as the Energy Monitor, Hybrid System Indicator and Eco Score, Eco Savings Record, Drive Monitor, Climate Control, driver support systems, information and entertainment system content, navigation support, and more. All models include a touch-screen display audio system with advanced voice recognition, Bluetooth connectivity for portable electronics, Siri Eyes Free, and more.

Under the hood, every 2019 Prius is built around a Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive featuring a 1.8L four-cylinder Atkinson cycle engine, an electronically controlled continuously variable transmission, high-capacity storage batteries and sophisticated power management system. The Prius FWD features a high-torque electric motor engaged on the front axle and Lithium Ion storage battery.

The new Prius AWD-e models feature a newly-developed Nickel-Metal Hydride battery designed to provide excellent performance in cold-weather conditions, plus high-torque electric motors on both axles. These motors deliver on-demand all-wheel-drive performance, and the AWD system is designed to automatically revert to FWD performance when it’s not needed to maximize fuel efficiency.

Every 2019 Prius also expresses Toyota’s leadership in safety systems, headlined by Toyota Safety Sense P. This bundle of active safety technologies enhances driver capabilities to help avoid accidents or mitigate their effects. It includes the Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Automatic High Beams, and Full Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control. Other safety systems include a vehicle proximity notification system to help alert pedestrians and cyclists when the Prius is operating in electric vehicle mode, the Toyota Star Safety System, eight air bags, a back-up camera, active front headrests with whiplash protection, and reliable LED lighting – including headlamps, daytime running lights, rear combination lamps and high-mount stop lamp.

The 2019 Prius is offered in a choice of powertrains and packages, as follows:

The 2019 Toyota Prius FWD carries a starting MSRP of $27,990. This model features a six-inch Display Audio System, air conditioning with automatic temperature control, fabric seating, heated front seats, a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, power windows with automatic up/down on all windows, tilting/telescoping steering wheel, map lamps and cargo area lighting, illuminated entry, 12V accessory power outlets and retained accessory power, the Smart Key System with Push Button Start, a rear spoiler, dual power adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, and more.

The 2019 Toyota Prius FWD Technology carries a starting MSRP of $32,490. This model is just $2,200 more than the equivalent 2018 model, while providing a long list of additional standard features. Enhancements over the previous year’s model include SofTex leather seat cladding, rain sensing wipers, premium LED headlamps, a Softex leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel, the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert safety systems, eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, and more. Upgraded features in this model include a seven-inch Display Audio System with integrated Sirius XM Satellite Radio and Navigation, auto-dimming rear view mirror, illuminated entry with step lamp, the QI wireless charging system for compatible personal electronics, a power tilting/sliding moon roof, and fog lamps.

The 2019 Toyota Prius AWD-e carries a starting MSRP of $28,990 – adding Toyota’s new electric all wheel drive system for just $1,000 more than the front wheel drive version. It is otherwise similarly equipped to the front wheel drive model, but with additional features including fog lamps, premium LED front headlamps, a Softex leather-wrapped steering wheel, illuminated entry with step lamp, the QI wireless charging system for compatible personal electronics, and front and rear hatch handles with touch sensor locking/unlocking system.

The 2019 Toyota Prius AWD-e Technology carries a starting MSRP of $32,990 – adding Toyota’s new electric all wheel drive system for just $500 more than the front wheel drive version. This model features a Display Audio System with 11.6” high definition screen, Softex leather seating and heated, Softex leather-wrapped steering wheel, auto-dimming rear view mirror, rain-sensing wipers, the Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert safety systems, premium LED headlamps, and fog lamps.

    • This model may also be ordered as the 2019 Toyota Prius AWD-e Technology Advanced with a starting MRSP of $34,790. This model is enhanced with several technology features, highlighted by a head-up display that discretely displays the speedometer, navigation and hybrid system indicator in the driver’s line of sight. Other upgrades include Toyota’s Adaptive Front Lighting system with auto leveling headlamps, clearance and backup sensors, and an integrated garage door opener.
The 2019 Toyota Prius FWD and all-new 2019 Toyota Prius AWD-e go are now on sale at Toyota Dealers across Canada. For complete and up to date details and specifications covering the entire Prius line up, visit www.toyota.ca/prius

Yep but we can only estimate off an estimate which gives us 18,000 AWD-e

not sure if that is remotely close or not

The picture you attached shows there is enough room for a spare tire, does it? Is that your point? What exactly is the device in the center? It looks very different from anything I've seen on the Gen 2. (I've never had an occasion to open up the HV battery on the Gen 4).

It's the extra inverter for the AWD motors. A lot of brainwork went into that design:

    1. Remove and discard spare tire.
    2. Install inverter.

Thanks for the explanation. It doesn't look like it's taking up so much space that the spare must be eliminated. They are just trying to save weight, I would assume.

It might also need a certain amount of space around it to stay cool.

OK, so the top of the line 2019 Toyota Prius AWD-e Technology Advanced with a starting MRSP of $34,790 CAD converts to $26,440 USD at a conservative rate of .76 USD/CAD. Per the Toyota.com website the equivalent car in the US costs $30,050 before Delivery charge, so a cash buyer could save around $3.5K US by crossing the border. I know there is a bit of paperwork involved in going through US Customs (I bought our Gen 2 in Canada and had to deal with that when I wanted to register it in NY state), and I guess there would be no free Toyota dealer servicing for the first 2 years, but apart from that what would prevent a person from buying a car in Canada? (My wife wants to replace our Gen 2 with an SUV when it finally dies and I'm trying to convince her to go with a Prius AWD instead.)

There's other things. Apart from speedo that can be switched, "mpg" info would be metric. There's no maintenance reminder (no loss). Daytime Running Lights might be different? Who would the warranty be with; would US dealerships honour it? Probably but not sure.

You forgot the actual rear electric motor. Even though the picture has the shape of the spare tire, I don't think it has the same depth.

Nothing. I've been recommending future Prius v owners to buy from Canada because we had the Prius v for one more year than you guys. The exchange rate is in your favour if you were willing to do the work! Same for those who wanted an ATP with the Solar Roof for the Gen 3 - I was like.. right here guys. We have that exact combo (minus the 17" wheels, LED headlights and foglights but 2/3 can be added later)

For the Gen 4/Prime, the imperial/metric info is completely switched (so not just the speedo but the odo, trip odo, FE readout and navigation instructions will go from metric to imperial) The only thing that doesn't change is the temperature for the climate control.

You'll have DRLs that use the low beam at reduced intensity. Don't worry about shorter life as I'm still seeing 2014 Corollas with working headlights (they use their LED low beams at reduced intensity as DRLs and you know taxis run theirs almost 24/7 so those headlights will have been on for a long time now).
