Hello all! Im looking to replace my 2005 that was totaled. I have found a 2007 with 130k and a 2010 with 180k for the same price. Looking for opinions as to which way to go.
    Thanks Steve

The mileage is night and day between the two. For a point A to B car ill go with the lower mileage, That depends on what your purpose is.

the2007 will need a battery at some point. maybe a brake actuator, and combo meter.

the 2010 will need a complete egr cleaning ($1,000. unless you diy) possible head gasket, combo meter and brake actuator.

It depends on the type of mileage... The car with 50K additional miles could of been a vehicle driven mostly on the freeway and the one with less miles could a lived a life in cross town rush hour traffic and used by several teenagers learning all about aggressive driving that their parents never found out about, which means it would be way more worn than the higher mileage one. The more you can learn about how the car was used or abused, the better. Little old ladies are the best people to buy from...

Speaking of this site. I want to ask you 2 things. How do you check the car without adding it to your garage... as 2nd or 3rd car to run the history? The other thing is on the maintenance history (since i'm doing it by myself). How do you make it permanent and not editable?
    Thanks,

I just used a different email addresses for different vehicles... Never seen a way to change history or enter your own. My understanding is Toyota stealerships are the only ones authorized to enter maintenance data and I'm certain a Dealership can only enter data, not edit data unless they have to fix a typo in their most recent entry. Maybe you're referring to a sand box of some sort that allows owners to add notes? I've not seen that feature and if they did have it, I'm sure it would be separate from official dealership data.

Model Year, Price (being equal) and mileage really just isn't enough to give a solid opinion on which to purchase.

The 2007 is in the zone of time where a possible Hybrid Battery replacement could happen.
But the 2010 is entering the same parameters.

As with all used car purchases, knowing as much about the history and condition is best.

Without an inspection, without hands on contact, without a carfax, as a internet poster? I don't know which one you should buy. Arguments for either can be made.

So the most detached, distant advice I can give is go yourself and physically evaluate both.
It might become an easy decision once you sit in one or the other, get a hands on look at the condition and driving feel. It may just give you the answer. You might find, you like one, much more than the other. That's something I or anyone can't do over the internet.

I don't know if this is private party, or dealership finds.
But in my younger days, when I was looking at private party used vehicles, a big part of my evaluation was often meeting the original owners. Getting a gut feeling for the type of person they were. Sometimes evaluating their yards, garages and/or homes. Without saying anything or being rude, I felt that if I looked around and everything else they seemed to own, was not taken care of, or run down, why would I expect they took any better care of their vehicles? So sometimes that in of itself was a big part of whether I decided to buy a particular private party possibility.

But even that wasn't a perfect approach. I bought some lemons from nicely kept homes, and some pretty good vehicles from rougher environments.

    So anyway, good luck.
Go look at them. You might find you just like one a lot better, or don't like either.

Owners are allowed to enter in an entry perhaps to allow for DIY and other service stations vrs a dealer
I believe it always stays editable if owner puts in the entry.
Obviously, when dealer does it, you cannot edit that.

Aaaah that was a pleasant trip over the beach today. Anyways back to checking the background from the Toyota site. Yes I guess besides the Carfax, that's one of the ways to check it out like establish an email address for that car to get the history if I understood correctly.
I did that to my wifes 2018 prius for I wanna see all the records and upcoming maintenance schedules, after a few weeks Toyota Corp. sent her a letter saying that the car is already transferred on someone else's name and they will void all the factory warrantees and etc...
In the beginning, I didn't wanna tell my wife that it was me for I wanna play with her first. But I didn't wanna wear her out too much so I told her the next day. :) And I did call Toyota just to notify them there was no change.
Back to the real story. How much for the 2007 and 2010 mule?

    2007 yes 2010 no.
2010 is plagued with head gasket problems and oil burning.
