Got my new HV battery, works perfectly. However, I still have warning lights on the dash. They wouldn't tell me the exact code since I didn't pay for diagnosis, and when I plug in my mini vci I hear a whirring noise coming from the engine bay that makes me uneasy about connecting it so I'm unsure what codes it's throwing but "ecm " got mentioned. IIRC that code was showing before I had any warning lights as I had someone scan it when the battery first started showing signs of failure.

The car is constantly running the engine, and I can't force it into EV mode anymore. I get problem on the mfd when starting the car in addition to the red triangle, check engine, and orange exclamation point. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? I just want my car to work ☹☹☹

    Have you already installed techstream?

Sure have, I've been able to get it to connect to the car before but never pulled a code myself. None of the OBD scanners I've tried seem to work only luck I've had finding codes is when someone who rebuilds batteries scanned it for me.

You should do a quick scan and post the DTCs here.

Got stuck on "0/16" when attempting to pull codes this morning, I've never had any luck with the OBD port on this car. The dealership did mention a code relating to the ECM but wouldn't give specifics since I didn't pay for a diagnosis originally.

If you installed a brand new pack and you're certain nothing in installing was left loose or disconnected/not all the way plugged in, I'd be willing to bet those codes are just what hasn't been cleared from previous problems. Just disconnect the 12v battery for a few minutes for a fresh start.

Of course if the dealership is who installed this pack it's their responsibility to do all of this correctly, which is why they charged you so much money. They failed you and I'd raise hell with them until they fix it.

I had the 12V disconnected for about half an hour today and the lights came back on right away, I went right back into the dealership and they don't think it has to do with the battery of course, I'm going to see if I can get someone who has read codes for me previously to do so again.

So they returned the car to you with all the lights still on? Or the lights came back on later?

I've been told Toyota only requires one hybrid trained mechanic per dealership, so quite often hybrid work is done by someone who's not been trained to do so. I'd insist that the dealer either finish the job or give you your money back because they didn't complete the repair they were required to make! It's probably as simple as a loose plug...

Lights came on as soon as I started it up, and the technician made a note that there were still lights on. I feel as though because I didn't have them diagnose it they're going to deny any and all responsibility.

Other points of interest, the brakes feel very touchy and seem to be using the friction brakes more so than regen, and the power delivery feels less 'consistent' than it did before.

Well... It doesn't really matter. They failed to fix it and you paid them to fix it. Toyota corporate will likely back you up on this... There used to be a name at their main office who would back up us PriusChat members.

Bottom line is you just paid them big money for something they were supposed to fix and didn't fix. Don't take no for an answer and keep asking to escalate to a manager or supervisor. If I were in your shoes I'd argue that they took your money and didn't evening replace the battery pack because all the lights are still on and you'll be contacting your local consumer protection administration as well as your attorneys general who will go after them for fraud/criminal activities.

Go thru this website Consumer rights & guarantees | ACCC and print up the exact language that they are required by law to follow and show them that language and make them very concerned that this is going to cause way more damage to them then getting your car fixed.

Also do an internet search on the name of the dealership with keywords, fraud, scam, rip-off, etc. and see if you can find other people with the same problem. Be ferocious, yet polite and they'll be way more eager to get this addressed as quickly as possible!

Thank you for all of this, I'll look into those options. The HV pack was definitely replaced though, the issues I was having with the battery previously have stopped entirely. All that has remained are the warning lights and the engine not shutting off.

Again... You need to make a list of everything they screwed up in the car that's not right and go after them first thing every morning until you get everything fixed, starting with them proving that they actually even worked on the car in the first place by giving you a copy of all the paper work for the new battery pack. If they can't prove that, they're going to have all kinds of legal problems with this one.

Also refuse to pay any more money... They have to fix this with the money you already paid them!

i think the op brought the hv battery thinking it will fix the problem so he dont need to pay to see whats the code or why it giving a code. so op paid the dealership to install the hv battery plus the parts but it didnt fix the problem. i dont think its the dealer fault if the hv battery didnt fix the problem since he think the hv battery will fix it and didnt have the tech to check whats wrong.

The car for sure needed a HV battery replacement, as I already had it scanned prior and saw a P0A80. I'm thinking that there are other issues that may have popped up after I had already had the car scanned to confirm that it was the HV at fault. I am taking it in in 5 days (earliest available) to have the cause of these lights diagnosed. Definitely not jumping to blaming the dealership (yet)

It sounds like the OBD2 port has worked before.

Curious if the mini-vci cable is faulty, have you tried using it on another vehicle to verify that it functions?

Also don't update the firmware on the mini-vci cable, as I've heard that will brick it.

It's possible that the dealer failed to read the the sub-codes of P0A80 and was more interested in $$$ than diagnosis... As in you could of replaced a still healthy hybrid battery but had the all too common corrosion in hybrid battery cooling fan circuit, or some other part of the system, which wasn't replaced. Maybe this is another example of why stealerships don't know how to fix anything that's no longer under warranty?

So I had the car back at Toyota today to have these new mystery lights diagnosed and they said their system was down so the diagnosis has been rescheduled.

Since I still can't scan my car, and the battery rebuilder who first scanned it says his scanner won't work I will post more symptoms here, mostly so I can see if someone can give an educated guess as to what's going on.

Engine is always on, the car feels like it's in B mode all the time (I checked, it's definitely in D), won't allow me into EV mode ever, cruise control doesn't work, brakes feel very bitey, and despite the energy monitor showing energy going into the battery, the consumption screen shows 0 regeneration.

I'm aware that no one can just know what's going on with it and I'll probably do nothing with the information anyway, just wondering what people's thoughts may be.

Really hope I can get to the bottom of this soon so I can enjoy this car again, don't even want to drive it until it's fixed in case it dies.

Does the air conditioner work? If that's also not working, I would not be surprised if it turns out to be an inverter problem. But until you can get the codes, it's all just guessing. It's amazing how hard it seems to be to get the codes.
