We recently received our permanent plates for our Prius. We now have been checking the Bayareafastrak.org in order to get the fastrak account so we can apply for the HOV stickers, but the website is down. We have been trying all day through various sites. When reading the chat forum here we saw that there is a Fastrak office in Embarcadero, does anyone know if that's where we still go to get our Fastrak account (we want to do this the fastest way possible). Their phone number is busy, so we don't know if they are operating from this particular site, and we don't know the hours, etc.

Also do I need to have the plates in hand for the Fastrak people to see it, or just the plates numbers.

    Thanks a lot.

    Hey Cristy, welcome to priuschat!

Embarcadero is where I went, and there are parking spaces right in front too. I didn't take the plates in, they just wanted to see the registration which has the license # on it, I assume that a temporary will do. I really don't know if they are still there, you'd think so it was a relatively new office, or super clean!

Call a DMV maybe they will give you the info over the phone. In fact that's how I found out where the office was I marched into DMV ready to get my tags then they said, "wrong place buddy!" And they gave me all the info. DMV near Panhandle Park.

Berylrb has it right. I went there last spring and it is as described. You do need your actual license plate number (the temporary number that you got from the dealer won't do). Once you get the fastrak number, you can then file your application with the state. The folks atbayareafastrak know all about this and will give you the needed copies to file with the state. Work fast as they seem to be up against their total allocation (although there supposedly is a bill on Gov Groper's desk to add some more). With the whole thing sunsetting in a the next year or two, I don't really know what the future of this is going to be, given the backlash from the very jealous gas guzzlers who seem most insulted by this very smart car.
