Are you sure that's a Hybrid capable code reader? Maybe someone like @JC91006 or @TMR-JWAP who have lots more experience can tell if these codes are bogus. They don't look right to me, but I'm not that experienced in interpreting those codes. A quick search of the Microscan manuals didn't turn up the word "hybrid" or "compatibility."

 

They all remind me of real codes. (I think P3191 just means the engine cranked for too long without starting on some occasion.)

The real thing to remember is those one-liner, fortune-cookie descriptions are next to useless. When you look up each code in the Repair Manual (more info), the first page will have a box giving the "detection condition", which tells you exactly what the ECU had to see to make it log that code. When you combine that information for the various codes you have, and start asking "what could have led to the ECU seeing these things", often a picture will start to emerge.

Doubtful that OBD2 scanner is hybrid compatible, or the person isn't able to read the "sub-codes" (aka: INFs or secondary codes).

As mentioned above, DTC P0A7A has 14 "sub-codes". Without knowing the sub-code(s) you would potentially need to follow through all 14 workups, which could be a jackpot for just about any mechanic, assuming if you have an open wallet/purse.

You (or a mechanic) will need a "mini-vci cable" (and a copy of techstream) that costs about $20 online, or a Toyota hybrid compatible OBD2 scanner that offers "sub-codes". If you're unsure what a mini-vci cable (and the required techstream software) is, do a quick search. Most modern Toyota mechanics are using or should be using such (generally speaking).

How much oil was it burning?

 

The big problem here is that the car is trying to tell you what is wrong in hybrid language and your code reader/mechanic/whatever is trying to read it using a tool that doesn't understand it. Until you get an accurate code reading, you're just guessing. You're talking about throwing thousands of dollars into a transaxle job when it might be a couple hundred dollar job. You need to find someone/someplace that understands a Prius.

 

That should be fine. I noticed the firmware is v1.4.1, if you can find a cable with v2.0.1 that might be better. But don't stress it.

Please don't try to upgrade the firmware on a mini-vci cable, as that will likely brick it and then have to repurchase.

 

It’s the 12v. Buy a new one from pep boys. It may help.

 

Just to be clear, the 12v battery has already been charged/replaced. And the closest pepboys is over 200 miles away.
