Do you change your oil every 5000 or 10000?

I do it every 10k but will probably stretch it out to 12k now that I have to pay for my oil changes. The dealer likes to change the inflation levels on my tires to 32lbs on all 4 tires. I told them do you read your manuals or door panels? Gen4 Prius says 36 front and 35 rear for tire inflation on the door panel.

Yeah, I'm putting in spec'd quantity too, and notice the level is slightly below the top mark, just shy of 1/4", at most.

I use a graduated pitcher, large enough to put it all in one go, and was kinda wondering if the gradations were off.

It's close enough to the top mark that I don't bother to top up (spec is spec), and it does not budge between oil changes.

Just changed oil last week, redline 5w-20. It was near 14,000 miles. Color and liquidity was similar to 4,000 miles M1 AFE. No oil burning yet, 100 miles daily commute.

I change mine roughly twice a year which works out to a little less than 5,000 miles between oil changes.
So far at 89K miles I have ZERO oil usage between oil changes. I have the dealer do it with Toyota 0W20.

I change my oil in my 2010 at 5,000 miles because the 0W-20 oil is much cheaper now than it was back when I bought the car, so now it costs less than a tank of gas. My Prius is slowly burning oil so if I change the oil at 5,000 miles and fill it up to the top mark on the dipstick, it will not reach the bottom mark before the next oil change.

10,000 miles and it was just starting to get dark? these engines are really efficient, and easy on the oil, impressive for sure even more for me, before having a Prius i drove a 2001 Toyota Sequoia, was a PIA to refuel every week with $60 / $80, just to carry 2 humans.

If you pour drained Prius oil into a mason jar or similar, it’ll be black as ink, after as little as 3000 miles.

That said, the dipstick oil will look pretty good, a lot lighter than sim oil in a conventional car.

My Prius C engine oil has 8,100 miles on it, but of these 8,100 miles, 2,200 or something have been with the ICE off. So the oil does not has 8,100 miles at all. It's interesting.

    New Toyota 0W20:

And after 4000~5000 kms, drained from our 2010 Prius:

Again, the "black" oil still looks pretty good on the dipstick, just a thin film.

Just today i was checking the oil and scratching my head with that same thing:D Oil in stick looks surprisingly good after 7000km (12months) and change is due in couple weeks.

Yeah if you check the oil of a conventional car after 5000 miles, it looks almost like ink, on the dipstick.

Never ever ever ever no matter what ever used jiffy lube parafin wax/oil. I'd stop driving and get a flatbed if that were the only option

Nobody is allowed to touch these cars, ever. Everybody stay away from my cars. Pop my hood and I cut your fingers off. Not joking. Try it

With diesels it take just couple seconds and new 0W-30 oil is black. Somehow it still lubricates as new

Just changed oil and filter on my 2010 with 253.000 km. Plan to change it every 10.000 km from now on. Previous owner had receipts for the old changes and sometimes they have used 5w30 oil.

Still - used no oil since last change at 243.000
