Have had my 2019 Awd-e LE for 8,000 miles now. Decided to go with cloth because I knew I wanted to add “real leather” seats in the future and the cost to do that was less than upgrading to XLE...

...BUT the one thing I didn’t think of was the auto headlights. Had a Rav4 XLE prior with auto light and am in the habit of not remembering to turn on my lights now.

Simple solution would be to just remember but I noticed that my LE has the “ambient” light sensor in the middle of the dash. Is it possible to order an XLE stalk and hook it up to that sensor? I have zero experience however.

I saw a few threads mention that gen4s might not be able to do this but wasn’t sure of the AWD-e was maybe a bit different.

Appreciate the help. Overall loving the Prius and very happy to make switch to Hybrid.

I'd doubt it - it would almost certainly need some computer programming, it's hard to know if the appropriate wiring is there either. Most things like that aren't retro-fittable. But you could ask your dealer.

Thanks for the reply. I am going to check with my dealer. It’s would seem odd to have the ambient light sensor there if it wasn’t meant to be used... even in an LE. Especially with the auto-high beams controlled by the camera. I guess the sensor could just not be wired?

Are you sure you aren't referring to the sun sensor? The HVAC system takes guidance from the sun sensor on the dash to tell the difference between and X° with full sunshine blasting in, because otherwise it would always be chasing its tail as you drove from light to shadow resulting in wide temperature swings.

As far as I know this is completely independent from whatever they use to enable auto headlights.

That’s a good call-out. I was referring to this sensor (see image) and while it does say “if equipped” it also mentions control of the air conditioning. So perhaps on the LE the sensor is limited to only that feature? Interesting.

Okay, so the same sensor feeds both systems. Good to know. We haven't got auto headlights in our car either.

Tried adding a stalk only to a 2016 2 from a 3 with auto light function. Did not work. Have not gone any further with it.
