One thing I've noticed, is a propensity for item price to jump, after I've bought one. Maybe just coincidence, not sure.

Funny, that. I usually see the price immediately drop. I have even tried to game that tendency, unsuccessfully each time.

With Amazon purchases, you could return what you bought and buy the same item at a lower cost. I have done that many times. I don't understand why Amazon would not just give me credit for the difference. Store policy they said, but each time no return shipping cost to me, and I got the same item cheaper just a few days after the original purchase.

    Just an update.
    I still haven't purchased anything.
Not that I haven't found items I could purchase, but because I've found that it's kind of relaxing and liberating to have the credit, browse the site, and be able to say to myself...Nope...don't want anything. Try again later.

Isn't that sort of like insider trading?

Not sure what similarity to insider trading. lol

IIRC, Amazon use to charge for return shipping cost if returned for reason other than defective item or incorrect description. But for my recent shopping, they did not charge for the return shipping for cheaper price found on the same item. Only asking where you found the item at better price, which often happens to be Amazon itself. Many merchants have similar marketing deals for consumers. Lowest Price guarantee and no question asked free return guarantee are some them. What I don't know is for Amazon, there maybe more than a few vendors who sells the same item through Amazon.com. The price on items on Amazon fluctuate quite bit day to day. When one buys from Amazon and returns it for free, I wonder who pays for the return shipping and restocking fees. Does Amazon buy it back from the vendor and sells it as Amazon Warehouse used item? I don't know.
