If I remember correctly, when Toyota announced that Carplay was now available on new 19 & 20’s they also said it would be available as an upgrade on all previous gen 4’s for a fee. Of course my local stealership knows nothing about this.

Has anyone had this upgrade done on a 16, 17 or 18 yet?

I checked here (Australia) and TOYOTA only talk about the post-update version:

So I think I'm out of luck.

Hmm, my 2018 Sienna has had an update since spring 2019, where it gets CarPlay and Toyota+Alexa, which weren't initially available. This is definitely a better deal for the iPhone crowd! Someone in the Camry pages at ToyotaNation was nice enough to upload the update files, and I updated my van, not needing a stealer visit. Maybe something like this is possible for the Prius. It looks like "projection" is the future, where a phone's native features (like Maps, Waze, etc) are simply beamed through to the car, rather than the car having to try to keep up with features and apps.

I think for $199, you'd get a lot more bang for your buck by getting an aftermarket that has it already. I think some even still maintain the ability to make vehicle option changes with the aftermarket head units, though I don't know if you'll find that feature at the $199 price point.

Hi Jon, I appreciate you and a couple of others mentioning this. I tried yesterday w/ my dealership and luckily they knew what I was asking, however when I sent them my requested VIN, mine is apparently "not compatible" for the upgrade even though I have a '19 Prius Limited (manufactured 6/19). She couldn't confirm, but I have a feeling it may be the 11.6 display blocking the compatibility again :(
