HV Battery died(Death Triangle) , need suggestions

    My 2005 Toyota Prius finally got the Death Triangle of battery on it's 270K miles.

    Current Issue:
    1. Voltage of one battery block(#5) is much lower than other blocks.

    Existing Other Issue:
    1. The Car AC is broken, and not worth to fix it. (We are in WA, thus summer is not so long.)
    2. ICE Consume about 1 to 2 quarts oil per 5K miles.


    My Questions:

    1. Shall I rebuild the battery pack?
    1.1 Where should I get the replacement battery cell, that can match my other old cells?
    1.2 (Looks like it's a bad idea) Can I just use any newer cell to replace it?

    2. For me it looks like not worth to spend 1600$ on a new battery. What's your point of view?

    3. Or just sell the car?

    Sell it as is where is.

    If the car is not worthy in your estimation of a new HV battery from Toyota, in my opinion the wack-a-module game that you will most like be endure by swapping out bad modules for better modules and then rebalancing the HV battery isn't worth my time and effort for me (maybe my value of my time differs from yours and you).

    You can get cells from Replacement Toyota Prius/Camry Module - Hybrid Automotive Jeff at hybrid automotive will go the extra mile to match the cell capacity of the one he sells to the one on your car using your car year and miles, oil consumption I will pay no mind to it just refill as needed, some new cars on the road need oil too so don't feel bad about it.

    See what options @PriusCamper has to offer, you may be able to keep it rolling for another 229k (y)

    I'm an hour south in Olympia... It might be worth replacing the bad module and seeing how much further the car can go if you're DIY oriented. Or you could buy a new pack and use that pack on the next Prius you buy once you engine dies? Private message me if you want all the options of what's possible. I have loaner packs...

    For somehow reason, I tried twice on making the payment in their website, with different banks credit cards, both got denied...

    Okay, the 3rd time successes.

    Finally, yesterday(2/20), I got the battery which I ordered on 2/7, and installed it today. Car Fixed!

    Has anyone tried Green Bean hybrid battery company? North Carolina and Ocala Fl and other locations, say they started out in California. They will come to you and replace your battery for $1,500 and take your old one. You must show them a diagnosis from your dealer that states your Prius has faulty hybrid battery before they will schedule you. I checked them out on BBB. I am curious if any one has actually had experience with them??

    Has anyone heard of Green Bean hybrid battery company . They say they will come to you and install a refurbished battery pack and take your old one for $1500. and give LifeTime guarantee. Is it too good to be true?? I checked BBB & there have A+ rating but there are reviews.

    Yes, many people have. They do not usually have good experiences. They fail anywhere from 3 months to two years and you lose your HV battery of known state to be left with who knows what.

    Question, why would you pay $1500 for an old second-hand battery (for that is exactly what a reconditioned/rebuilt/re-anything battery is), when you can buy a newpriusbatteries.com kit of brand new modules (albeit a third party module) for $1600 delivered free to any of the 48 continental states?

    i got green bean battery and it was a great expenerice they come to you to install the battery the job took less than 1 hr and when they done they test drive with you to make sure the light do not come on.

    yes. it's risk reward vs a couple grand with a new battery and no risk.

    i just got it not too long ago since i brought the prius with a hybriid battery problem so i cant tell how long it lasted. i used dr.prius on the battery life it shows 91% life.

    Let us know if you make it to two years.

    If you had to do it again, now knowing you could get an all-new option for $1600, would you still have taken the option to save $100 for a second-hand battery?
