    Hello Prius World!

My 2013 Prius came with a reverse camera but didn't have guide lines. It make sense, given how the camera is mounted, which is offset to the left of the license plate; not centered. So my guess is Toyota designed it without guide lines to prevent miscalculations & rear collision due to its misleading angle.

I decided to upgrade mine & luckily didn't have to wire it to the head unit like I did with my 2011 (T2). My '13(T5) was already wired so all I had to do was replace it with an aftermarket (AM) I got from Amazon . But not just a typical AM camera. This one has adjustable view & guide lines. I've used this twice now, one on my '11(T2) & now for my '13(T5) & I've always got good results.

Now my view on my screen is almost perfect center, plus guide lines. Before, with an offset view & no guide lines, reversing was very confusing & took longer. Not anymore!

The only challenge I faced was not having an available adapter for the camera. So I had to "jury-rig" it & made my own harness. Once I figured out the power & video source, it was pretty much plug & play.

    Materials Include:
    - Back Up Camera (back up camera: amazon)
    - breadboard wires
    - heat shrink
    - electrical tape
    - OEM part to mount your camera (Garnish Back Door: 76812-47030)

The manufacturer's wiring configuration for the camera harness is as follows:

    POWER
    Positive: White
    Negative: White/Black

    VIDEO
    Signal: Red
    Ground: Black

Hope this post saves you time with your camera conversation or upgrade.

My understanding is that the gen 3 prius's use a 6.5V camera. The camera you used is spec'd at 12V. This didn't pose any problem for you?

Stumbled on this thread. I have a 2011 Prius with factory camera. I’d love to add guidelines without replacing the head unit. Did you say you did that?
