    They didn't invent the labels until the plastics industry had mostly moved offshore. I've seen a couple of good documentaries about all the contamination left in some New England towns where early plastic production occurred.

    I disagree with this in at least two ways. First, no model predicts outcome, realistic or otherwise. They describe patterns in available data. At least that's what they do in early days of an under-defined novel virus still growing up after pre-symptomatic Wuhanese went afield. There are many situations in which models can predict realistic outcomes, but this is not among them.

    Nothing* is more realistic than 2nd order polynomial so far. This only is intended to describe confirmed cases and fatalities, the only two things I have worked through.

    The data in future will begin to fall below*^ these polynomial patterns. When they do will mark the end of act one, so to speak. That will be visible soonest as departure from 2nd order polynomials because they fit so darned well (so far).

    Later still, logistic models will become better fits. When they get to the second knee, then we shall be in a position to predict realistic outcomes.

    (*I could support this with Akaike Information Criteria, but as nobody asked :) )

    (**If they do not fall below, that will indeed be sucky, and I will be holding the wrong end of the soldering iron. So to speak)

    The thing to watch later on is if this virus can find some winter hangouts in S Hemisphere when that comes. Lacking that, this one will SARS out (although we'd presently guess with higher total fatalities). With that, this one might because a seasonal respiratory virus like the H#N# family.

    Seasonal respiratory viruses are ... whatever the opposite of snowbirds are. Sandbirds?
