    Hello all,

New here, and this is my first post. 2020 Prius LE FWD, and the selling dealer affixed a service due decal in the upper left of the windshield saying first service is at 1,000 miles. Toyota website, owners manual, etc. all say first service is at 5,000. Which is it?

I know long ago, a "break-in" oil change at 1,000 miles or even a few hundred miles was advisable.

    Thoughts?

    Is it a free service?

Not positive, but the sticker does say "your next NO COST service is due on ... " with spaces for date/mileage, which has 1,000 written in. Thing is, this dealer is about 35 miles away (they had the best price). The dealer I plan on using for regular services is about two miles away.

I'm going to call first to verify that it is indeed free, see what's included, etc. and then decide.

It's every 5k miles, but once the free maintenance period ends, you might wanna do just every 10k for oil and then check the car over yourself every 5k.

It is your choice. Pick whatever plan you prefer, don't let the dealer bully you into something else.

Toyota corporate says 5k miles, and that doesn't include an oil change. The first oil change is called for at 10k. See the Maintenance (and Warranty?) booklet.

Any sticker calling for service at 1k, is specific to that dealership's preferences. (To get you in for more up-sell opportunities?) Do note that if Toyota is still providing free service for the first 25k miles, that includes only 2 free oil changes. If this burns up one of those, then any 'free service' will expire correspondingly earlier.

Thanks for all of the help, everyone. I called and they said it was basically a courtesy inspection, and completely voluntary. I'm waiting until the 5K to take it in.

    Thanks again.
