Is the brake barking noise a symptom of a future repair?

    My brakes sometimes make the seal barking noise, not always but it does happen most days at least once, usually when cold I think. I know someone else with a Prius that said the brake noises are normal when I bought the car, but I'm starting to be concerned I might be on the hook for even more expensive repairs down the track.

    For Gen 3 there was a firmware update that reduced barking. I don't know about Gen 2 though.

    I am also inclined to suggest the bleed procedure if there is persistent barking though the firmware is up to date.

    Thanks for the responses. I'll try to take notice of how often it happens and if it starts happening more often I'll start worrying. The noise itself doesn't bother me.

    My 2007 Prius with 500,000 kilometers had the brake bark for a while when it was still relatively new. It went away by itself within about a year and never came back.

    I don' know if changing the brake fluid had anything to do with it, but I do siphon out the brake fluid reservoir, and refill it with fresh brake fluid, without bleeding, about once per year.

    The barking noise may occur more at higher altitudes. I would not be concerned if that is the only issue.
