Canadian Driver. Lithium vs Nickel battery in cold weather

    question: do you mean the 2016 trim levels that used lithium have the battery heaters in the year 2017 or do you mean the actual year make as in the 2017 prius?

    AFAIK, it’s Model Year 2017 when they added a battery heater to the Li-ion models which allowed them to sell it nationwide.

    2016 did not have a battery heater so those trim levels were only available in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.

    I would look at the 2017 Canadian parts list. You may need to add a thermostat to control the heater though.

    I’m not sure. It was only for that one model year. The battery has to be at -30°C for that battery protection to kick in. That means the car has to be parked in -30°C or below for at least several hours. Hopefully a garage is a touch warmer.
