MPG locked at 99.9 - bug?

Today I was driving downhill and performed the wonderful "warp stealth" strategy found on this forum. I got my 99.9mpg right to the bottom of the hill... and then on the flat... and then going uphill with the engine running... .

The MPG locked at 99.9 for a good 5 minutes. Then, once I used the brakes, it returned to its normal state.

My running average doesn't appear to have improved any as a result of this faux-99.9mpg.

Anyone seen this before? I've got about 340 miles on this car.

    no

Are you saying the instantaneous MPG was 99.9 or the tank average?

hmmm, that's very odd if the ICE was running to pull you up a hill it should have been less than the 99.9.

mine does that on occasion, i don't think it's done it for a full 5 minutes before, but it's gone 2-3 minutes.

    i think it's just a bug.

This has happened to me only one time. After being away for a week I left the house with a cold engine and had to accelerate from a stop sign and 2 traffic lights almost immediately. My first consumption bar was completely full and I knew that there was no way that I averaged 99.9 in that first 5 minutes. I have never noticed it happening since.

I think it's a bug in the software...

It's happened to me occasionally that the energy monitor screen gets stuck and doesn't seem to update properly, though the operation of the car seems to go on normally. After a while it snaps back.

Take it from me... it's hard to write bug free software :).

I've gotten this to happen several times in the past several days (most of which PriusChat was dead as a door nail for some reason...). I'm starting to wonder if this isn't a bug but rather you're actually somehow getting greater than 100mpg, and that's how it represents it.

During that 5minutes that it seemed locked I admit I wasn't exactly pushing hard on the gas, and lately it's been happening for shorter spurts and my average mileage is going way up from it.

instaneous 99.9 going up even a slight hill is something that would be unusual. but instaneous mileage over your tank mileage will never really correlate very well.

if you get the chance, the next time you fill up, reset your tank mpg, drive at least 5 mins and see how close your 5 min average is with your tank average...should be the same right??

hmmmm...well, ive seen about 75 mpg on a 5 min average when tank average was as low as 40 mpg.

it would help a lot if you posted your speeds as well.
