Yea, not too sure besides the fact that I live right smack dab in the heart of the US salt/rust belt! Rest of the bottom of the car doesn't look bad though (just normal for a Chicago car)!

Oh and I found that thread ("Engine seized? 118k miles") about the guy who bought the auction car. I'm gonna have to book mark that and read it later! It's like 13 pages! It does look like it was initially a no start situation for him though yes. So that ended up being damper/flywheel and input shaft!? Maybe I will be luckier since mine does start and run and drive. I've already got the better mind of me to CEASE driving it before I potentially CAUSE damage to the input shaft (if it isn't already)! Thinking of it I may even just go ahead and have it TOWED in! Providing that's either what I choose, or if enough "peeps" around here think or indicate it is a good idea to proceed with the damper/flywheel repair...

I know pretty much nothing about causes or prognosis for cracks in flywheels. Off the top of my head, a multi-kilogram cast metal thing, with a crack, spinning 5,000 rpm and aimed kinda down the centerline of the car doesn't sound ideal.

I did find this article, which seems to suggest there are degrees in these things: for racing applications, a flywheel would be machined from billet and anything resembling a crack would be disqualifying, while stock cast flywheels might commonly have imperfections that could look like, maybe even be, small cracks.

It would certainly be above my pay grade to say whether the photo here shows an acceptable imperfection or a dangerous crack.

So I am still working on sourcing parts (among doing other things) and so far for the damper - I found and like these two the best. They seem the most promising:

There's this one, straight 'out of' Japan - for only $454.96 w/ free shipping on eBay. Seller seems to have all but 1 positive feedback, my only concern would be, "is it real OEM", but they say it IS so I'd hope it is otherwise I could return it or otherwise open a dispute with eBay/paypal!... - OEM TOYOTA 3127047060 DAMPER ASSY, TRANSMISSION INPUT 31270-47060 | eBay

Then there's this one which seems to be from a legit dealership in Virginia, USA, for $605.22, and it estimates my shipping to be $17.63. Assuming it IS indeed a legit dealer, I shouldn't have to worry about it being legitimate OEM! - Damper Assembly Transmi - Toyota (31270-47060) | Toyota Parts

So the one on eBay from Japan, will be about $167.89 cheaper, but certainly take longer to get here (may be worth it to wait a little longer to save another $168)! As long as it is genuine OEM, money saved is money saved! The one from VA, US will be about $168 more, and should of course get to me Much quicker... I presume it will be genuine OEM without need for concern though...

Would you be concerned with either one not being true genuine OEM?
Which would you personally go with? eBay/Japan for $454.96 -or- Dealer/"local" for $622.85

The flywheel seems to be a little simpler - I haven't been able to really find *any* on eBay (NOT getting a used one!), and that same dealer in Virginia seems to have the best price out of all the 'dealers' websites I've checked:

Drive Plate - Toyota (13451-37080) | Toyota Parts

    $257.63 + $23.54 S/H = $281.17 to my door...

Will 3127047040 work? From what I saw the part number required for my car was 3127047060.

edit: NVM, looks like ending in 7060 replaced ending in 7040 (so 7060 is the newer/newest version)

and it looks like the ***7060 is actually cheaper on your source than the 7040:

Genuine Toyota 31270-47060 (3127047060) DAMPER ASSY, TRANSMISSION INPUT - Amayama

It looks like 31270-47060 from your source would cost me $357.32 to my door! AMAZING!

Still, what @ChapmanF 's saying might come to pass.

Well your source, Amayama.com, seems to have both parts cheaper than what I've found. If I happened across that website I would have skipped them over though TBH, but if you "vouch" for them (you've used them before without any negative issue(s)) then I will most likely place my order with them for both the damper assembly AND the flywheel!

I would like to thank you profusely for letting me know, and hopefully also reiterating their 'credibility' - thank you again - SO MUCH!

I've done 3 purchases, always went well. Takes about 10 days, well packed, they need a signature at the door IIRC.

If doing multiple items, aim to get them all from same country, to avoid having two shipping charges.

I believe I had to purchase via paypal, but the process was very smooth. Also, my usual browser is firefox, but for some reason it hung in the pay process. I contacted them and they suggested I try another browser. I tried Chrome, worked fine.

    in the "estimate" anyway...

If they show a shipping charge, at least for me, that's what it was.

Just for giggles I've loaded in things like a short block, and it would say shipping charge to be determined, start the purchase and we'll get back to you with a final number.

But yeah I'm pretty sure if they show a shipping charge, that's what it is.

If you pull the trigger, I hope for you that resolves the problem. One thing, that is a strangely rusty looking damper, so might be.

I'm assuming if it says "parcel 1/1" that it is all coming from same seller, in one box:

I did have to enter the weight for the flywheel because it had a "?", so I just googled the part# plus "weight" and according to google-fu it seems it may be 6.46 kg - so that's the number I plugged in...

I would just leave that blank, let them get back to you. When there's a "?" I think there's also a message down below, that they need to verify stuff.

I do get a shipping charge for just the damper plate, was it that other item, the shaft thing, that had "?"?

I guess it allows you to change the number so that you can estimate the S/H without having to commit to buy. So I just played with the number until the cost went Up. S/H cost will not go up unless it is greater than 6.73 kg (6.74 makes the S/H go up - because W/ the damper 6.74 makes the combined package weight greater than 11kg). So I think I should be pretty safe to use that as a "guideline" until I'm actually ready to officially pull the trigger and commit to an order! If anything, if it does weigh less, then it will just be cheaper, which of course I would never complain about! So assuming the weights are close enough, I'm looking at $577.41 to my door, for both the damper AND flywheel!

Verify those part numbers for sure, before you "leap".

And a sanity check, as in: hopefully this is the issue.

According to this site, going off my actual VIN these part #'s are what my car needs. I do know I should probably still "double" verify with a Toyota dealership before leaping!

Toyota Parts - Genuine OEM Toyota Parts and Accessories Online

On that site you can plug in your VIN and it will tell you what's compatible. Example, I just searched for the damper assembly without the VIN and it gave me the FULL list of dampers. Then I entered my VIN and it got rid of ALL but ONE (the one for my car based off VIN)...

Were the parts you ordered from them true genuine OEM (BTW)?

Yes I believe so, judging from labels and what I received.

Last item was a oil filter bracket, for conversion to spin-on filter. Looked kosher.
