I have a 2004 and a 2010 Prius. I'm shopping for another hybrid, either a Prius or a Corolla or a Camry. The Toyota dealer tells me today the Prius is on recall so he can't sell me one, is that right? He is selling Prius Prime though.
I kind of like the hybrid Corolla though, just as roomy in the passenger compartment as the Prius, and the trunk is bigger than I thought. What advantage does a Prius have over a Corolla besides cargo capacity? Are the engines comparable?

you really have to drive the corolla. some lovem them, and some not so much. great car from what i've heard though.
    how are the prime deals?

doesn't sound like those prius recalls are a big deal, try other dealers.

As a Gen 4 owner, I find this statement interesting.
Actually the alerts popping up on the MID part of the combination meter should be banned due to excessive distraction with no useful function!

I rarely look that direction unless I'm bored:eek: - the HUD is generally all I need.

I have no HID and my first 150 mile drive home was a dark night in an unfamiliar car with all those warnings flashing over the displays I was interested in using to drive the car!!:mad:

Just booked mine in for the annual service and MOT test and was told there might be a recall for safety belt mechanism that needs doing. The Dealer wasn't too sure what it entails as they haven't got the full details yet.
Just checked the Toyota UK recall checker and it says, "We have identified that your Toyota is subject to a voluntary customer service campaign or outstanding safety recall." although there are no details of what it is.

Interesting, I have my service and first MOT this Saturday, will be interesting if they mention anything.

I checked the above site and get the same message.

This will be the first time I have had to get an MOT in over 10 years as I never keep a car long enough normally, but I love 'Percy' (y)

I have seen nothing of a US seat belt recall. Strange. @Elektroingenieur usually keeps informed on such things.

No recalls mentioned in the 2017 (late year) Prius owners page at Toyota.

I'd send the owner a message....then go to another dealer.

    ...maybe another brand.

Yeah, there is a law that if the car is being sold as "new" and not "used", it cannot be under a recall. This is in the US only though, not sure what the law is for other countries. If you really want a new Prius, wait for the recall to be performed.

You cannot even test drive a new vehicle under recall.

There is a seat belt recall in Japan, Europe, and other regions, announced on January 29, for certain fourth-generation Prius, Prius PHV, and Prius α/Daihatsu Mebius/Prius + cars. The problem is in the buckle switch, part of the front seat inner belt assembly, which can short circuit, causing the seat belt warning buzzer to sound even if the seat belt is fastened. The remedy is to replace the assembly.

For Japan, see the recall notification (PDF) and illustration (PDF) (both in Japanese); and for Europe, see bulletin 20SMD-012, available by subscription to toyota-tech.eu.

According to a Toyota filing with NHTSA (PDF), the recall does not apply to vehicles built for sale in the United States, which used switches from a different supplier.

At least its not like the Supra/Z4 seat belt recall where there was a missing weld which requires a WHOLE NEW CAR.

I wouldn't mind a new replacement car at 4 years old.

FWIW...I was told the same thing on 2/21 by a dealer in OH. However, I asked other dealer's and no one else seems to know of this safety recall...

We were at the dealer around 6 PM on a Friday evening, I do suspect they just didn't want to bother at that time of the week...
