We are waiting on delivery of a 2020 Prius Prime XLE from Japan and was wondering how many others are also waiting.

If you are waiting on delivery of a 2020 Prius Prime from Japan I'd be interested in knowing when you ordered and how long did your dealership tell you it might take.

We ordered a 2020 Prius Prime XLE in Blue Magnetism with black interior on Friday January 24, 2020 and later the salesman said our order was sent to the regional office the following Monday and they would in turn send the order to the factory in Japan.

Our salesman said the estimated time it might take for us to receive delivery of our Prime could be from 90-120 days.

    Thanks !

Delivery?? Here they still have unsold '20 Primes from last summer. I'm actually picking one up this week.

Must really depend on location. And maybe check a few other dealerships, if practical.

There's two 2020 Prius Primes currently on the lot, just checking our nearby dealership.

And just checked: NO regular Prius, lol.

Unfortunately there are some of us in areas that do not usually carry Primes in stock (and we are not in a position to travel out of state) and ordering the Prime we want is the only option that works for us.

We're in South Carolina (southeast Toyota region) and the ONLY 2020 Prime available in the entire region at the time was pearl white and I wanted magnetism blue.

Some regions obviously have some "carb" states and other regions do not, and unfortunately it seems each regional Toyota corporation do not deal with other regions, only with dealerships within their own region.

Go to CarGurus and sort by "oldest listing". It's not just one location.

That's just the ones in the Southeast. They are independent of Toyota corporate.

Thanks for the idea it is appreciated but when the dealership checked back in January there was only one 2020 Prime in the entire southeast region and it was in pearl white and we wanted magnetism blue.

I just checked CarGurus (300 mile range) for the model we wanted - a 2020 Prime XLE - shows 2 XLEs now, a pearl white and a red, so even if we waited till now we still would have had to order to get the magnetism blue 2020 XLE.

Unfortunately our dealership said they could not deal with other regions to get the specific car we wanted.

Someone posted a while back (either this forum or elsewhere) a map showing the Toyota regions in the U.S., here is what they posted:

    Ok, Let me explain:

Hawaii is not part of Toyota North America at all. The warranty is different, the options are different. Treat Hawaii like a different country and you won't be wrong. Servco Toyota Honolulu | New Toyota & Pre-owned Cars, Trucks and SUVs

Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina: Southeast Toyota Distributors is an independent distributor and was formed in 1968 when Toyota was just coming to the US.

Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas: Gulf States Toyota is another independent distributor also from the late 60s. The Friedkin Group - Gulf States Toyota

The rest of the US is Toyota Motors North America. There are regions, but it is all one company. Toyota Motor North America - Wikipedia

Most of the US can. Hawaii, you will notice, is not even on your map. (Alaska is) And the two independents don't talk much to Corporate. All I can suggest is order out of region and drive one home.

We ordered ours about when you did. I could only find one nearby to test drive but wanted a blue limited. We were told it could take months, but we picked it up two days ago.

Well, I simply went by what the dealership said when I asked if they could get the car we wanted from elsewhere and they gave the distinct impression they did not work with other regions, whether that was a distinct policy or just their preference not to do so I didn't know.

Our situation was such that we were not in a position to travel out of state right then or even now so we went ahead and ordered one back in January to be delivered from the factory in Japan.

Wow, neat (and congrats !!!!) …...did your car actually get delivered direct from the factory in Japan or did your dealership somehow find one available already here in the U.S. ?

I do not know with certainty but my understanding was it was ordered from Japan.

For a dealer in your state, it is true. But for much of the US, false.

Yep, seems to be a trait/policy/preference/whatever some regions have

Dysfunctional dealer networks seem to be the norm for the traditional automakers.

I always order whenever I have the option to do so. Force of habit. ;)

We waited almost 2 months for the 2018. The 2020 required a wait of 2 months and almost a full week.

    Cheers
