Hi. I have a used 2015 Prius Two that I was hooking up a dash cam for. For now I have it plugged into the 12 v socket under the console but I do want to figure out a way to hard wire it in.
I think I found a switched 12 v and ground at the kick panel based on multimeter measurements but I wanted to find a wiring diagram for that area to be sure what I would be hooking into.
Also as I was poking around down there I saw someone had tapped into the wires and I was wondering what they might have had hooked into those wires.

Toyota publishes an Electrical Wiring Diagram (more info); use the Location & Routing section to identify the connectors of interest, and then see the schematic diagrams in the System Circuit section.
Probably a dealer-installed, aftermarket alarm system.

I appreciate the help, and I may find what I'm looking for on that website eventually, but the information in the wiki is either outdated, or I'm just not understanding. Thank you for pointing me in the direction.

Everything seems to require a subscription, which would be like $4 and change an hour. Is there a different resource anywhere?

I sucked it up and paid for the subscription. If anyone ever runs across this and wants to know what these connectors or for, of heck if I forget I've attached pictures.
It appears that whoever tapped into these before I had the car were trying to access the door lock mechanism, so like you said, probably an alarm or something.

Good work. Now that you've got two days of access, you might also spend some of it looking up or downloading other stuff you might anticipate wanting to know about your car. (y)

Yeah, I'm spending the day trying to think of stuff I might need to know and taking screenshots of it. I'm sure on Friday something will come up, and I'll want to look at the schematics for something I didn't grab.

Not what you're asking for, but I recently installed a dashcam in my 2012 v Three.

I was hoping to find switched 12V up at the map light console, but did not. I did find switched 5V, but that could not provide enough power (about 1.2 Watts needed) for the dashcam.

So I ran it off constant-on 12V up there, which is how the map lights are wired. Due to the extremely low power draw of the dashcam, it works just fine, and being on all the time, it actually acts as a security cam when parked. I have it set as motion activated with high sensitivity, and it captures each car that drives by in our quiet neighborhood, people walking on the sidewalk, etc.

Basic calculations tell me the car should last at least two weeks like this without being driven. Since my wife drives it almost every day, we'e had no issues at all so far. If we would ever drop our usage to that low, I'd consider wiring in a little solar panel that should be able to provide 2+W on average.

And BTW on the power consumption for your particular dashcam, you should completely ignore any specs from the manufacturer and do your own tests.

Just a totally different thing to think about. Doing it all up top by the map light console vastly reduces the need to run wiring, remove body panels, etc. Very clean and easy doing it up there.

That is a good idea, and I probably should have done it that way. I ended up running the cord to behind the power outlet under the dash panel, and tapping into the 12 volt outlet.
I've attached a picture for the wiring diagram for the 12v sockets. I know the one on the right is for the one underneath where the radio and stuff is, I imagine the one on the left is for the one in the console under the armrest.

How about find the pre amp inputs on the amp below the passenger seat for jbl equipped so we can use it directly to an outboard amp? I’ve never seen any documentation of this before on here.

I started a new thread hopefully that has what you're looking for. I don't full well know how to read these diagrams, or what all the abbreviations mean.

As far as "how to read the diagrams" goes, yes it can be a real mystery. Since there are so many diagrams, the publishers always follow a well formulated and described protocol. Usually the first 20 pages of the manual will have that all laid out in extreme detail so nothing is left to doubt.

On the other hand, a voltmeter will let you know where the power is, red often means power, black often means ground, a screw into virtually any piece of steel will always get you ground, you can estimate how much power can be drawn through the wire based on its gauge (diameter), and usually the worst you will do is to blow a fuse.

Combine that with the fact that the manual may not be right, especially if it is for a different year, and sole reliance on diagrams is not always the best thing.

BTW, black isn't always ground, red isn't always power in my car and just because they follow a well formulated and established protocol doesn't mean I understand it.
These diagrams didn't come from a PDF with any pages, so the first 20 didn't tell me beans.
I'm trying to make the most of my subscription by helping others as well, but as they say no good deed goes unpunished.

I don't think you understood what I was saying.
BTW, of course red is not always 12V, black is not always ground, etc. I bet even in your car, in many cases they are that way, though, in many places. Look at your 12V battery, for example.
I'm not just posting stuff for you, it is for anyone who at any time finds this and may need to know something new. Even if some are easily offended and do not want to learn anything.

One peek at this thread would tell you that I know about a multimeter, that I used it but wanted to verify my results and figure out what the tapped wires were.
A peek at the pictures I've posted would show you that in all of them black isn't ground and red isn't 12v in probably every instance.
As far as your education, you could have been a lot less smarmy about it.

As I mentioned on the Wiki page, many public libraries—including the one in San Antonio—subscribe to the ChiltonLibrary service, which you can access at no cost as long as you have a library card.
Keep in mind that you can get a PDF version of each diagram by clicking the Print button in the upper-right corner. Do this for each entry in the System Circuit section (noting that there are some duplicates), and you’ll have the diagrams for the whole car; the Overall EWD repeats much of the same information in a format more convenient for printing. The Location and Routing illustrations can also be saved in this way; on sections that have 1⃞2⃞ 3⃞ (etc.) at the bottom center, click these to select each page; they have separate PDF files.

Your TIS subscription also provides access to the library of Toyota’s technician course handbooks, in the technical training section. Each chapter is a PDF document, so you can save these for later reference, too.
Indeed. In the interactive viewer, this is all covered in the topics under Introduction.
On Toyota vehicles, ground wires usually (but not always) have white insulation with black stripes.
