I can't remember which insurance company was doing this, maybe All State or State Farm? But a member of the forum posted his insurance company sent him transponder to be installed on his car to monitor his driving record for a while like 30 days. The transponder will record driving habits, speed, stop and go, distance, etc, and data is sent to the company to be analyzed. If your record shows good and safe driving habits, then you qualify for a discounted rate.

we're with amica, heart, mind and soul. but they don't have anything like that. i think it's a good idea. we do get good driver discounts, based on tickets and accidents only.

    Amica too:).

We're all in with them too;).

The wife's family has been with them for over 40 years, and no issues(y).

I was with State Farm. They had a deal where if you set up the transponder in your vehicle you immediately got a 15% discount.
After that, you could get further discounts depending upon your driving habits.

I also liked the immediate feedback. Kind of like the mpg rating on the Prius :)

Progressive is the one I remember doing an ad campaign for it. I've used the program with Liberty. It was for 3 months, and it can be done with a smart phone app instead of a plug in transponder now.

Sound like TIMS has several business partners to sell the driving data to. ;)

And yet people have no problem with Google or Apple collecting data because they demand CarPlay or AndroidAuto.

^ yeah. They can use that data to improve PED or their PCS or their LKA/LTA/LDW.

Tesla is collecting everything. Even if you touch the wiper stalk (S/X) or manually wipe (Model 3), that data is sent to Tesla.

They’re ok when I tried to cancel but they will call every time you listen to SiriusXM during the free trial.

The attached files are from Toyotaowners.com. If I click through I would have consented to the data collection for insurance purposes. I am guessing the experience is not uniform. Usage-based Insurance -1.JPG Usage-based Insurance -2.JPG

Hi everyone. I traded my 2017 Prius Prime Plug-in for a 2020 Prius LE plugin recently. I am looking for a good definition of Toyota Connected Services. This is all I can find. WTH would I need this service? It's not clear to me...any updates?

    What is Toyota Service Connect?

I did the same thing with my 2017 PRIME Premium traded in for a new 2020 PRIME LE. As you found out all new 2020 models of PRIME are now equipped with Safety Connect which was available only to Advanced trim before. It is free for the first 3 years, then $80/year subscription. For added bonus to selecting the lowest trim in the PRIME line-up, we also have WiFi Connect service through Verizon using the telematics for the Safety Connect. This is free for first 2GB or 6 mo, but no rate is posted at Toyota or Verizon site after that complementary period. It seems I do have to authorize the use of Safety Connect after I log-in to Toyota Owner site. I am going to decline the service and disconnect my car from Toyota's surveillance.

for every feature that Google offers, there's another provider that will do it WITHOUT any tracking. You support Google via using them - or not.
you do NOT want to screw-aroynd with their agents.

Humm, I have tried using an Android phone without any linked Google account. But that didn't go very far. What I ended up doing was creating a separate account just for use for specific apps on a separate phone without any personal information. But as soon as I enable my location data, I think they know who I am. :(

BTW, I still use Windows Phone 8 OS as my primary phone with all my important contacts, not that it is more secure than Android, but only because I think MS is no longer interested in tracking location data of Windows Phone users.

OK, using Toyota App, I was able to opt-out from Toyota Connected Service on my new PRIME LE. After opting-out, the "SOS" button in the car which was lit with an orange light is now off. I think they have shut down the telematics on my car now, I hope. This also means I can no longer use WiFi Connect service from Verizon, but its not a big loss for unknown cost after first 6 mo trial. I don't need any surveillance in my car.

My wife's 2020 Lexus NX300h has this enabled and I didnt find any privacy issue. It brings convenience and protection more than intruding our lives.

Seriously if we worry about privacy invasion, we wouldn't be using the internet or talking in forums like PriusChat and our IP is being logged either VPN or not, always a log somewhere.

The only way to prevent privacy invasion is to stop using the Internet entirely.

Autonomous requires this and if everyone is afraid of privacy invasion, it will never happen.

That is just how I look at it. I am in IT security and have more worry than anyone else for privacy but as long we do our due-diligent steps, we should be ok. And of course being legit doing legal stuffs

This is nothing compare to NSA-leak-blow

This technology has come in real Handy for them. There are a couple hundred users right now of full self-driving (FSD) and the reason these folks get to be first is because Tesla is monitoring every move these drivers ever made in their tesla driving. At every stop sign, they religiously make a full stop. Whatever the speed limit is? They drive at it, or below. Safety paid off, they got to be first
