    (I agree with the portion I deleted)

    But this assumes one person in the car to get the equivalency to air travel. All you have to do to make the car more efficient is add a passenger or some cargo weight. One extra person and you get about 100 MPG/person

    Just in case someone thought that flying the whole family somewhere instead of driving was more efficient.
    Note that time to get there may change your plans.

    Ya, it's pretty widely known that flying is the worst way of travel GHG-emissions-wise.

    For long trips, unless you're driving a very efficient vehicle, flying might be more efficient than driving if you're a solo driver. Of course you can easily half your emissions by carpooling.

    Is flying or driving better for the environment?

    Short answer: You should feel bad if your taking a solo vacation in anything but a hybrid. Otherwise, you're fine.
