Tire installer broke a TPMS sensor

We got our Goodyear ComforTreds today (very happy with the tires) but the tire place broke one of the TPMS gizmos. They obtained one from a local Toyota dealer and installed it, but the warning light on the dash won't turn off -- it stays steadily on. We did try the reset button under the steering wheel to no avail. The tire place suspected it was because I had my pressures (42/40) higher than indicated on the door, but I noted that I'd been running at those pressures on the OEM tires since I got the car.

My suspicion is that the car's computer needs to be programmed with the ID code from the newly installed TPMS. This would probably have to be done by a Toyota dealer. (The tire place will pay for it.) I do have the cut-out of what appears to be an ID number from the top of the box.

Is this a correct diagnosis?

Got it fixed and the bill is paid by Goodyear.

FWIW, the final pricetag was $105 for this repair. Apparently they had to dismount the tire to get an ID off the sensor, and so they rebalanced the tire as well.

 

Thus far, I have been quite pleased with them. I posted brief first impressions in another thread, but to recap:

1. Noticably quieter. Switching from the CR-V to the Prius was a tremendous reduction in road noise and bumpiness. Switching from Integrities to ComforTreds was also a noticable, although less pronounced, difference.

2. Wet handling is noticably better, as is handling on a section of road here that's under construction and has some really nasty grooved pavement. The Prius on the Integrities wandered through this and although traction control didn't ever kick in, it felt like you were hydroplaning. Not so on the ComforTreds.

As for mileage, there may or may not be a hit. My current tank is at 52 and I usually average around 55. Also factoring in though are no longer highway trips, possible winter gas blends, temperatures 20 degrees cooler on average, etc. Or in other words, there are too many variables for me to say anything useful about mileage impacts.

(I did notice that the dealer had set the tire pressure to 34 (!) so I remind everyone to check their tires whenever the dealer touches them.)
