Gotta brag on those OEM Dunlop Enesave tires

    Dunlop Enesave P195 65R15 tires, original equipment on my 2017 Prius Two christened in early DEC 2017, already 69,500 miles and only half worn tread. Rotated every 10k miles along with oil change.

    Extraordinary wear, albeit my travels are mostly highway, 120 mile a day commute, but still............

    Gotta give it to Toyota, so many OEM tires are junk these days.

    Ride and noise is ok, not particularly great, since I ride mostly on interstates. I am open to suggestion for replacements if anyone has a tire that is quieter, or better in any way. For tread life, can't beat the Dunlop, but not the best riding tire, I'm thinking.

    Most tire "reviews" are based on very early evaluation, with very little follow-up, especially reviews after 35-40k miles.

    Thank you for a real "long-term" review of a tire.

    What is your overall MPG?

    20k on the Enersaves. Good ride, I like them. 56 MPG (SoCal freeways full of rough surface, bumps and potholes) 40 freeway, 8 city r/t commute.

    Inflation checked every 1,000-1,200 miles, rotations at 5k miles. Wearing nicely, tread is 6 out of 8 so far.

    I've had old & new-style Ecopias (422s?), Michelins (Costco A/S). On the same car, Ecopias did 15% better MPG on a lighter non-hybrid but stopped slower than the Michelins and fishtailed in non-downpour conditions. Took them back and exchanged them for the Michelins (better than everything but MPG)

    I liked the ride with Continental ___Contacts (Pro? Cross?) but they didn't last but 38k on another car plus I prefer Costco for it's warranty protections included in the price.

    When I'm due to change, I'll shop both the Enersaves and Costco. I'll probably buy at Costco but can return them if I decide to go back to Enersaves.

    Sorry, missed your reply at the end of the year. 73k overall miles on the car 59.5 avg. mpg. Mostly highway, to say the least. Still got the tire on.

    Wow. 73k miles. How's the noise? SE Pennsylvania roads are mostly asphalt, or hmmm...maybe older broken concrete slabs?

    Thanks for making me feel less bad about rotating them at 6,000 miles instead of the 5k recommended. I'll now also do about 10k intervals since it has worked for you.

    I had the same Dunlop Enesave on my 2017 PRIME OEM. I had them for ~30K miles not counting ~10K I had winters on, and were down to 4/32" despite with every 5K rotaion. If you had yours half worn to 4/32" (new is 8/32" on those tires) with ~70K miles on them, that's darn good. Your highway miles must be good for the treads. I have never had any tire, I mean any, including some of the most durable tires with longest tread life warranty last longer than 5K. Chop-seal asphalt surface on our roads must be lowering the tread life.

    Tire rotation timing is entirely dependent on usage. Highway? 10k miles rotation is fine. Daily city driving? 5-6k miles.

    Our 2015 LeafS: 100% city use, heavy for its size, strong understeer, exceptional torque from standstill: It eats front tires. Rotation at 5k miles helps, would do even better with 3k mile rotation.

    I'm not sure if they're all like this, but my 2019 Prius turned out to be a zippy little thing (of sorts). I'm usually always the first away from a light, and by a good margin after 50 yards. I probably should rotate every 5k then.

    uhh...yeah...sure, Mambo Dave...whatever you say! Zip away!:D If you hammer the throttle in any car, the tires will wear quickly.

    The difference in torque between the Leaf and the Prius is rather substantial. INSTANT tire spin, if you want it. You have to drive an EV to feel the difference.

    I think 5k tire rotation is the wisest for the vast majority of us.

    Yokohama blue earth oem’s on my 2016 touring. They were good tires, and I have to agree with the OP Toyota is doing a good job providing substantial tires. I was at the dealer and had to get lotta work done so I bought new tires and am now riding on Goodyear assurance weather ready – – nice ride much quieter, but looks like a 4 to 6 mpg hit. I’ll keep you posted

    I can't see how you got that kind of mileage on the Enasaves. Mine wore out at 37,000 miles on my Prime with tire rotation at 5000 miles and good balance and wheel alignment.

    ^^^: you probably already know this, but driving style, load, locale, highway/city ratio: all have a strong impact on ultimate life of any tread.

    My 2017 Prius 2 came with the Toyo tires. They are still in good shape but will replace them at or before 50K. I think they have 36K on them right now.

    Yeah, my OEM Toyos also have 36k miles on them. Will probably replace them sometime this year with Michellins.
