Although the US Federal Government response has been a disaster, State governments are taking things seriously:
Ohio health official estimates 100,000 people in state have coronavirus | TheHill

Its utterly depressing, but the first step to stopping this is admitting the scope of the problem.

Basically, expect the numbers to double every week until sufficient countermeasures have been implemented.

Infections vs. medical responses have similar patterns.

    Covid turning points.png
I previously posted China graph about time of sitrep 24. More recently argued that no math can predict late-stage totals until after the turning point. In S Korea it came at sitrep 41, so several ways are available to anticipate totals. Italy has not got there yet.

Interesting to note that Hubei Province (home to 85% of China infections) and Italy have similar populations- both ~60 millions. S Korea, 50 millions.

This approach can be used for any level of data resolution available. If WHO data are inaccurate for some or many places, reliability of results will be lower.

If someone has a best-available data for USA, it would certainly be interesting to compare. I'll choose a few other countries to add later.

Hope it's clear that by 'infections' I mean all efforts made by viruses and unintentionally aided by vectors. 'Medical responses' are everything done in opposition.

The two best sources I know of for U.S. data are:
    COVID19 Tracker
Tracking Every Coronavirus Case in the U.S.: Full Map - The New York Times

The lack of adequate testing and a reliable centralized source makes the numbers suspect (and likely a huge under-count), but its the best available data that I know of.

Thanks @noonm but I'll have to leave this in other hands. Their data is hosted by google docs which is outside my reach. I invite you or anyone else to turn it into a daily list of total cases and post that here.

Unrelated to corona viruses, but useful knowledge about the infuenza gang.

Naming starts with H1N1 and potentially up to H18N11 and with all combinations in between. Not all have been detected in humans.

H means hemagglutinin, a viral surface protein that helps virus to enter cell (factory-to-be). Then all the factory stuff happens, and newly made virus kids are helped to exit cell by N, neuraminidase. Big words, but one is key to ingoing lock and other is key to outgoing lock.

In January I knew diddly about viral interactions with eucaryotic cells. Procaryotic cells yes, but that is way less complicated. It has been a very interesting coupla months.

Wednesday flight to Buffalo NY to pick up a prime on Thursday, drive it back.

Overnight hotel near airport, morning Uber to the dealer.

Thoughts with respect to the virus?

Well I think I've got the recipe:

Ok, I've figured it out. I'll soak a wash cloth in dial, ethanol, and sliced jalapeƱos. Let it dry to damp and carry in a plastic sandwich bag. The damp dial and ethanol will handle bacteria and hopefully virus.

The jalapeƱos will solve touching eyes, nose, and mouth. Scotch bonnet would be over kill, working on anyone who touches something you've touched.
