For most, the proposed $1,000 check from the government won't even pay one month's rent...

my trips were uneventful, they didn’t have any yogurt but got everything else I needed no fighting required.

that said according to Facebook a doctor got an emergency call to work talking about how the most deadly thing anyone can do is touch a gas pump handle and to warn everyone not to touch the handle.

Just pour some petrol (gasoline) over your hands before and after filling up and you'll be fine.

It's also a useful way to stop smoking.

I think Japan's method requires having enough tests to see where and how far the virus spread from someone discovered sick with it.

    It's nihilism here.

I suspect that may be the fastest-spreading contagion at the moment.

    No, seriously. Why?

    I'm sorry. I just don't get it. What's funny?

    You'll have to explain.

China's Xi allowed to remain 'president for life' as term limits removed - BBC News

I would have said "Became President for Life" instead of began his second term. But then I'm a little freer to call balls and strikes AS I SEE THEM.....which may look a little different from your vantage point.
I understand your sensitivity, and will try to limit my musing about the PRCs.

We'll just agree that while we're in the adult section of the forum we'll discuss more gentile topics like..........political the political antics that surround the "bailout"...etc....

Ah right. Haha! I get it. That's so hilarious!

"Began his second term" is what people say. If he does remain President For Life - which isn't all that likely, for reasons I could go into but won't for brevity - he will have a third term and a fourth term and so on. He'll probably have a third term. It is important to do this to differentiate policy in different terms. His first term had a lot of good things about it. His second term does not. Perhaps if he gains a bit of confidence, his third term will be better, but more likely as his paranoia increases it'll be worse.

I suspect you'll find yourselves using similar terminology in the US in four-and-a-half years' time.

Sensitivity's not the issue: it's knowledge and nuance.

I don't "call balls and strikes AS I SEE THEM" when I see you talking about submarines, or see @tochatihu talking about forest science, or @bwilson4web talking about rockets and stuff, or my next-door neighbour talking about heart surgery, or anyone talking about the things they specialise in. I know that you know more than me about submarining, and I am keen to learn from you. Listening to experts is always a good thing: understanding that is not rocket science (except in Bob's case).

James May from Top Gear has long espoused something called "Christian Motoring". Obviously I am not religious, but I do tend to take this approach. It's difficult in my car, because people expect all BMW drivers to be d--ks, so they get confused when I flash my lights or wave to let them in at junctions or whatever. But I do it anyway, because it's nice.

Hooray! It is good to know that JK Rowling is helping the world to speak English.

I downloaded some Ian Rankin ebooks recently. Unfortunately I inadvertently chose American editions of some of them. They've edited them to make them more comprehensible to American readers, and have taken out lots of the Edinburgh dialect and even the specifics of local life (they've deleted references to Irn Bru, which is a fundamental part of being a hungover Scottish detective, for example). It's terrible: it's lost all of its colour.

it's funny, when i listen to international u/k stars, a lot of them sound more american than british

You should be able to get them on Amazon or eBay. (Harry Potter books, not international UK stars. Although some of them.... Maybe Geri Halliwell or Rick Astley.) Anyway, yes, it's worth a look.

Americans often get confused by my accent, which is from North-West England, but from quite a posh town. An English person would immediately know that I was from a posh town on the North-West coast, but because it's not the "British accent" that Americans tend to imagine, Americans get very confused. Often they think I'm Australian. I don't think I've picked up an Australian accent while I've lived here - certainly not enough to justify someone thinking I have an Australian accent - but obviously I do use some Australian words.

    Self quarantine?

    Fun Fact:
The word quarantine comes from quarantena, meaning "forty days"
