My daughter lost a key to her 2005 Prius. She bought a new key fob from Amazon and after several tries, I found the instructions above and successfully reprogrammed her new fob to work perfectly as a smart key. Now her assignment is to get the blank key cut to match her original key.

I can add another successful program of a NEW fob. Bought on Amazon for $110.
After following some other threads I mistakenly believed that an old fob from eBay ($30) would work.:( So now I have a third fob that WILL start the car, but not unlock it. Guess it's worth it to have a fob that can be left in the car for emergencies. Keys are cheap to obtain and have cut, can hide it somewhere inconspicuous to get me in the door.

Thank you so much for the directions. Bought a key online from a Toyota dealership and programmed it per Chicken Dance. It took many tries - but it finally worked!! Do not give up before the 15th try.

I have old 2007 prius-canadian , It doesn't come with proper key, Fob with new battery, Remote do not work, It does start car and It means that imo Chip is working. very scare to lose key and need another key.
I want to buy sks remote but wondering that it is same as USA car.
Prius remote come with different ask frequency 312MHZ, 313MHZ, 314MHZ, 315MHZ, I think that USA use ask 312MHZ, but not sure Canada.
I do not have original Fob to information.

How did you buy the keys? I have reason to believe the passive transponder chip in 2004-2005 Gen2 is different from the facelift model. I transferred my key to a new housing but oversaw the transponder chip which is gone now. Bought a used ID4D67 but it won't program to start the car, which is supposed to be the correct for 2006- Gen2, but maybe not the 2004-2005 Gen2.

The parts catalog says the same part is used for 2004 -2009 so there does not seem to be any difference per/post-facelift.

Hm, unfortunately info on those things online is quite sparse. It SEEMS like it could have been a slightly different chip being manufactured in the past that was able to support both facelift and pre-facelift. According to some info the manufacturer stopped producing those chips and now only produces a simpler line.
OR, this chip has somehow to be initialized first before being programmed into a vehicle. But like I said, you can't find any reliable information on this, and for sure not from Toyota.

Maybe just buy a cheap used key fob and harvest the RFID chip for your fob. Chalk it up to experience.

Can't source any used key. And don't have the tools to reset it.

eBay and Amazon are full of secondhand key fobs. What tools do you need? You don't have some screwdrivers pointed nose pliers and some plastic glue?

After you have your key fob back together the first part of the "Chicken Dance" will pair it to your car.

    Hello there.

I can vouch with certainty that it ALSO prevents the deleted SK from being able to start the car also.

Well, I was trying to program an additional key fob.
I was able to program it to start the car, but not the unlock/lock smart function.
I thought maybe it reached the max of 5 keys programmed
So, I followed the key delete procedure..

the key fob I previously programmed was deleted...
and was no longer able to start the car...
I will be returning my purchase to ebay...
and bite the bullet, spend more for a genuine new toyota key fob instead...
looking to program an additional key so I can have a spare...

but yes, the key delete procedure prevents
deleted keys from starting the car...

Will the 'chicken dance' procedure work on a European Prius?
For example, the reverse beep disabling procedure works for American cars but not for European cars.

Can confirm that a "black logo" with an SKS (silver logo), it can start the car but not open the door with buttons (metal key works). But at least I have a backup emergency key :)
