Update - I contacted Toyota Customer Care this morning and they referred me to my dealers’ Operations Manager to have to my car inspected to determine if there’s something they can do to prevent the seatbelt receiver from receding into the seat. They also confirmed the seatbelt extenders are not intended for use with a child safety seat and are only permitted for use by adults. They assigned me a case number and told me to call back in the event the dealership is unable to help me.

I need one as an Uber driver. I don't know the girth of my passengers before I pick them up, but in about 1 in 200 rides needs a seat belt extender. These people always take the front seat, when the back seat actually would be better for them. I move the front seat up, for the comfort of passengers in the most used seat in the back. I plan to ask for one for my used 2013 prius V

I recently went to the dealer asking for a seat belt extension so I can strap the baby car seat at the rear passenger seat. The current seat belt is not long enough to do so (missing by 6-9 inches). After completed the Seat Belt Extender Application form and had it measured, the dealer called me back the next day and informed me that the extender is not to be used on baby seat. Hence, they are not providing me one. The only choice I have is to order one from Amazon. However, I am concern about the safety issue whether I should go against the guideline of Toyota.

The dealer is correct: Toyota’s “Seat Belt Extender – Owners Instructions” document (available by subscription to techinfo.toyota.com) states, “The Seat Belt Extender must never be used with any child safety seats.”

I’d suggest using another model of child seat. An aftermarket seat belt extender may not work properly with the seat belt buckles and latches in your car; or worse, it could appear to latch, but fail in a collision.

My 75-year-old average-sized mother has a hard time buckling her seat belt in my car all the time (and not my brother's non-Toyota). I'd love to get an extender so she's not struggling to find the latch that often get buried in the seat. Hopefully, she doesn't need to get measured. I just need the latch to stick out a little more so it's easier for her to find it and buckle herself in.
