    Hi-My first post here !

I have a question about the A/C in a 2008 Prius in 23 degrees weather,

I put the A/C on and it seems warmer then the fresh air without the A/C on and if I put the A/C on and run it in recycle mode it's warmer then the fresh air running also and this is all sitting in the car at idling !

Is there any reason besides it being broken (IMO) that it would do this or am I missing something about the Prius's A/C that works differently ?

    Welcome to PC,
The most likely reason for this is is low gas pressure due to a leak in the system.
Do not try topping the system up with the standard aerosol type containers as these contain the wrong type of oil (PAG) that once is in the system can destroy the compressor motor. Go to the dealer or an AC shop that knows about hybrid systems and uses the correct ND11 oil.

even in recycle, you're still bringing in some fresh air.

If I understand your post, you might be saying it is quite cold outside, 23 degrees. That could be warm if it is degrees C. The assumption when talking about air conditioning (A/C) is that we are talking about refrigeration of the air. When you turn on the Auto A/C in the Prius, it will be either warm or cold depending on the actual outside temperature and the temperature you select for the inside of the vehicle. What is the temperature setting you have selected? The conditioned air might also seem warmer when set to recycle interior air since the air inside the vehicle may be warmer than outside air and that combined with additional heating makes it warmer. So no, I don't think it is broken.

Yes definitely. If the temperature set point is set to more than 23 degrees then everything you stated would be exactly as expected.

Maybe. Have you discovered how to set the desired temperature yet?

BTW. I'm assuming you're talking about degrees Celsius here, otherwise your query doesn't really make sense. Be aware that the majority of people on this forum are from the US and use degrees Fahrenheit. So you could cause confusion without including the units "C".

I'm not sure what temperature it was set at.................
Hi-The setting of the air was at LO when I put on the A/C and the temp outside was 23F I tried it both fresh and recycled A/C and got warmer then fresh air W/O the A/C on !, My Chrysler Van gets as cold as 34 F when I run the A/C how cold does the prius get ? I was told the second lowest setting is 65 F, Anyway of checking to see if the A/C is working correctly in 18 f degrees ?

You can try setting the temperature to MAX COLD. However you may need to wait until the ambient air temperature is much warmer for a good test of the air conditioning system.

Ok so it is degrees F. I couldn't understand why you'd be wanting to cool if it's that cold out, that's why I assumed you were talking Celsius. Now I see you're just trying to test the aircon is working.

I've never tried to run the aircon at temperatures like that, but look at the climate control screen on the display and you'll see that there's a temperature setting and on screen buttons to bump it up or down. If you keep going down it will eventually go to "max cold".

Ssomeone posted their number here (10 yrs ago) , i called him, told him it had been sitting, he said only the gas has evaporated out soo u dont need the expensive nd11 oil !! so i had an old can of r134a sitting around and a hose for connecting to system, (i have a hose with guage coming) ,
So i filled it , since i didnt have a guage for pressure , i went in and watched the temp, when it got down to low 40's F i figured good enough , didnt want to over fill and stopped at that point.
When the guage hose comes , I can then reconnect and see what the system pressure is .

i hooked up my techstream in the BODY subsystem - got an 'abnormal evap fin temp' (high)
B1174? the v13 and chinese jvi cable are pretty limited, try and do an active action and the win xp32 system crashes.
