Was going to fly out to Buffalo, NY to pick up the Prime last Thursday. Decided that just wasn't the best idea right now.

Dealer came back next day with, "we've found a hauler to bring it to you. $650." Well, probably not the smartest time to purchasing a $30k car right now heading into a recession. I'm not even going to be driving it much over the next months, right? But anyway...

Trucker picked it up on Wednesday, the last thing the dealership did before mandatory shut-down. Called my insurance company with the VIN, Thursday an insurance card came in the mail.

Today was a trip to Lexus to drop off the CT200, end of lease. Simple, painless. Lyft back home. Next was plates, taxes, tabs. Trip to the nearby DMV, they're closed starting today. Then check online to see if one was open. Head up to that one, only to be told they're not really open, but there's one 20 minutes away that is. Called them to be sure they really are open, "yes, until 5PM. Closed after for two weeks due to the virus."

Get there, now after 3PM, lot is pretty full and a line goes out the door past all the other strip mall businesses. But people are 6ft apart and the line is moving fairly well. Manage to talk the DVM gal out of charging me sales tax on the cash-back $3500 (that's the law in Minnesota). Walk out the door at 4:30PM, plates and tabs in hand.

So, got the last car out of the dealership, the last haul the trucker would make for weeks, and the last call at the DMV before it all shuts down.

Start charging the battery at home. Slap on the plates, insurance card in the glove box. Try (and fail) to get the garage door opener to sync with the rearview mirror. Throw an opener on the seat next to me.

About an hour later, unplug, and head up the road for a celebratory take-out. Last time they'll be open for walk in, tomorrow, it's order ahead only and pick up outside. Lots of "lasts" and "barely made its" today.

But one big first: an all-electric outing, up on the highway and back. Gas engine did not turn on once. That was very cool. (y)

    Great story, and very well-written!

May you enjoy your new Prime for many years to come.

It's a great time to own a PHEV so that you can charge at home and not have to engage with gas station pumps and other similar places. Depending upon where you live, there are probably many restaurants offering take-out for pick-up within your Prime's electric range.

    Enjoy!

Thanks. It's been nerve-wracking this last week. A diversion from the focus on staying home and healthy.

Mandatory shut-in starts today. Exceptions are getting outside for exercise, food, medical. No congregating, 6 ft apart. (Apparently, go for 12 ft to be sure.)

Looks like rain today, good excuse to stay home, read the manual, and try to get the garage opener synchronized.;)

Very nice story. Glad to hear you received your brand new PRIME despite all the things going around the world. A little bit of normalcy, we all want those days. Congrats. I sincerely hope you can enjoy smooth ride of PRIME very soon (more often). ;)

Congrats, you're going to love it!

One of our garage doors had a heck of a time syncing normally (rolling code unit with "learn" button on opener... same as our other door that did sync okay). We finally tried syncing the Prime with existing remote, and VOILA!

Been trying a lot of both. Tested by re-synching the existing remote, no problem. Will try moving the van out of the garage, park the prime in that spot (closer), and hope that catches it.

Very nice! This brings to mind one of my favorite sayings, "Timing is everything." Enjoy your Prime! (y)

I'd still be resorting to the opener if not for my tech savvy son.

Go the the web site of the opener maker. You'll find instructions that work with that brand of opener.

Yes, this will work for some. But for some others, such as we who personally installed our garage door openers before the parents of some members here even reached puberty, this won't help.

Yes, the instruction manual for mine is there (actually dated 14 years newer, but the same model). No, it doesn't cover how to sync it to any car's controls.

I've got all the instructions, add son, problem solved. Pairing a phone on bluetooth is another hurdle. Just managed that.

With my dad, pairing BT hearing aid pendant with cell phone and TV relay, grandkids were the fastest.

Yeah, like that old chestnut: they can program the parental controls.

Re: Homelink. Check the Homelink compatibility site. Our old garage door motor could be paired but when we replaced it, it required a new bridging antenna (US$25?), plugged into a power outlet in the garage to bridge Homelink with the new garage door motor.

    Finally got them to sync.

It synchronized from the old remote. Although I had tried that earlier, I should have given them longer than two seconds. I conflated the base unit sync button presses (2 seconds) with that of synchronizing to the remote (hold as long as needed).
