Protection for red plastic brake light strip against low ceilings?

    When I parked in a garage this weekend and popped open the hatch, it self-raised and banged into the unexpectedly low ceiling. No damage, but now I'm looking for something like a clear molding/strip to fit on that strip edge in case I'm in a similar situation and forget to look up :)

    Any suggestions? I'm thinking something like a door edge protector, but would need to be wider and either clip over the edge or be pliable to bend over it.

    Can you tie a string to anything on the inside of the hatch and use it to limit the rise while open?

    Hmm - I don't recall any anchor points for that, but will take a look.

    I use a strap with 2 plastic hooks, One end hooked to the latch U bolt the other to the license plate bracket. I have to hook them on while holding the hatch.

    says "not compatible" but I'm pretty sure for some reason they only think this is OK for metal trunk lid.

    I'm sure it will be OK, and might look kinda cool, since its going to be red-on-red

    I'm thinking about getting one, but would mildly mess with airflow, so I'm on fence.
