.....or will it just have a completely different name and styling along with it ?
The reason I ask is, I'm really hoping by the time I buy my next car (4-5 years from now) it will be all electric.
And if it were a Prius, I'm sure it would be WAY more affordable than if it were a Tesla. Granted, it wouldn't have to be a Prius per say.... Just not a Tesla. BTW I freaking LOVE Tesla's ! Will buy 5 of them first thing in my next life

If Toyota makes an all electric vehicle it will be better than the Tesla and cheaper but they won’t.

Toyota has already answered that. They do not have the battery supply for that.
They can make 30 Hybrids with the battery capacity needed for 1 BEV. They believe making the 30 Hybrids is the better way to advance climate change,

'(n)ever', is a long time. i think. i would say yes, but it's just a guess. i would buy one in a heartbeat, based on my fantasy concept, but in all likelihood, toyota will screw it up

I think it is only a matter of time. Batteries just need to be good enough and cheap enough. Eventually that will happen.

This is probably true... Today. But give it 4 or 5 years. Technology marches on.

Having driven cars for a long time, its nice to see that finally, the electric car is "sexy". Electric is fun, fast and clean looking! And what use to be the popular envy of the neighborhood was being the first on the block with the fastest car with the biggest engine has now become who can be the first on the block with the coolest looking fully electric car! I can dig it!

If they do, it will go 50 miles and they will claim it is the best.

Yes but it won't be next gen. I suspect Toyota will wait til solid state comes through - it would be fitting for a Prius to showcase solid state if it comes to fruition.

As it stands with Li-Ion, I don't think they will.

Well I'm just hoping that happens within 4 or 5 years, as I will need a new car by then, one way or the other..... And I'm just tired of ICE's.

Don't narrow your focus to just an EV-only Prius, or even to just Toyota. The way things are proliferating already, there will be plenty of EV choices across the overall market by then.

Yes they will. But I suspect it won't be as small as a PRIUS. Current technology means that the battery is huge and heavy - a TESLA is up to ½ TONNE. Stick that in a current model PRIUS - and you've got a minor problem even if you take the ICE out.

Most of the world - that TOYOTA is involved in - isn't ready for full EV - the market is fully catered by the present suppliers. Here - they're selling almost none, some countries are yet to see their first EV.

But Hybrids, by using less than ½ the fuel of a full ICE car are doing a good job of transitioning.

Honestly, I'm not holding my breath. The Prime shows me Toyota can do it but it's just a matter of when. For me, I'm already looking elsewhere for my next car and it will be a BEV because I'm fortunate that it fits my lifestyle. I understand not everyone can own a BEV (one-car households with long commutes or people who live in apartments/condos/strata where the HOA/strata corp/landlord doesn't want to install home charging stations etc).

Yup. I'm looking elsewhere for my next car.. I know Toyota has that timeline they released last year but I'm not interested in an SUV. (the one that they're partnering with Subaru).

    This! ^^^

We must have a hundred or more posts here from people wondering how they can plug in their Primes at their apartments and condos. Our housing infrastructure is nowhere near ready for the gas powered car to join the dodo bird. And that's even more so in South America, Asia, and Africa.

Still, I think that at some point Toyota will be pushed into making BEVs. But I think they would be smart to come up with a new look and a new name that pays homage to the Prius, but also demonstrates that they are turning a corner.

Meanwhile, my theory is that they will keep on watching and learning from other car makers' mistakes while waiting for battery technology, price, and availability to become more favorable to the bottom line.
