The worse spreaders of pathogens happens to be those hand dryers. I never use them and run out fast when I see someone else using one.

I always carry several napkins or paper towels in my pocket, should I need to use a public restroom. Now, I also carry toilet paper.

What worries me is stuff you have to touch. Door handles, garbage can flaps, letter box flaps (yeah, dealt with one of those last night). Trying to always have antiseptic gel. Around here everybody's sticking to the "wide berth" technique, on sidewalks or trails.

Dysons and others with NSF accreditation should be alright. Got to check for that NSF seal.

I grab an extra paper towel to open the bathroom exit door. I try to use my feet as much as possible or an elbow to push a door open. I'm wearing long sleeves and pull those or my jacket sleeve over my hand to grab a door handle. I'm also washing my clothes and jackets a lot more than I used to... I hope this eases up before it gets too hot for long sleeves and jackets.

I've always done that. I'm far from a germ-o-phobe, but those bathroom doors that you have to pull open are like grabbing something on another person that I do NOT want to grab or even see!!

Maybe this'll get designers thinking about no-touch solutions, one silver lining.

Parks and trails around here we have bear-proof garbage cans, with recessed handles you have to reach in to grab, really push, in part because their internal latch mechanisms semi-seize up over the years. And in our neighbourhood at least, some nutter is pushing tissue into that pocket before opening, and leaving it there.

Seems unusual that no one here has mention the homeless people taking baths in the sinks of public restrooms and smelling up the tables and chairs in public libraries.

Well, having a brother in Seattle that I only hear from a couple of times per year and the rest of the time wonder if he is alive or dead....

Have to take a breath. Calm down.

I can't answer at this time other than to say -- this coming from someone not really religious:

But for the grace of God, go I (or you).
    Kris -- a very sad Kris:cry:

I do love that biblical quote.

If I had not ended up here when I did, who knows, I may had been sharing a spot under a local bridge.

While some of those whom are homeless are just not interested in contributing, I sincerely believe the majority are forced into their situation.

That would mean that they are defecating elsewhere.

They are homeless. Of course they go elsewhere. That is why certain parts of central Seattle are nasty.

Even back when my spouse was commuting into Seattle, back in the previous century, long before the current homeless explosion & crisis, she had to call building maintenance for cleanup numerous times when opening up the downtown office in the morning and being unable to open the door without smearing the mess left overnight. She was happy to see that assignment end (she was sent there specifically to manage its closure) so she could be assigned elsewhere. To a suburban location.

It remains to be seen how homelessness and the current shutdowns will interact.

Well I tried the local grocery curbside pickup thing, it was a Giant store. I don't normally shop at that store, but my usual has discontinued their pickup & delivery service.

I wish I could report that it went well, but once I got there I discovered that the "out of stock" list they had emailed me in advance was not the real list. So they only had about half of what I ordered. I'd been advised to go on their website and mark a preference to enable them to make substitutions, so I did that. When I got there, they said they had discontinued all substitutions because each one was taking too long, and they were happening on every other item.

No clue what the inside of the store looked like. I'll employ some more creativity in the kitchen to avoid that crowd.

On a similar thread, I ordered some food from Amazon's pantry service over the past 2 weeks. I've never tried this before. I also ordered a couple of odds and ends I needed around the house, because i have long used Amazon as a hardware store. At every turn, I was advised that my goods would be prioritized so that people would receive necessary groceries first, with everything else coming later. And sure enough, my "other" purchases were listed with dates far into the future.

However, I've now already received all of my "nonessential" orders well ahead of predicted delivery dates, and none of the pantry-class stuff has arrived. Hmm...
