the Ct200h is indeed, a "turd gen" (giggle) part for part. my Honda Fit does well on the highway, but scooting around town with stop lights and traffic, it is most def not as good on mpg

I wont even get started with my nightmare, dealing with Lexus Corporate and trying to convince them that my issue deserved the same tsb that Prius owners received. I was told "your VIN does not pull up any recalls or qualify for any tsb" .... SMH.

As you guys get more of these death rattle's, please feel free to point a few people towards my thread, so they can avoid certain things (like replacing maf, coil packs) and not over spend unnecessarily

That's a manifestation of the disease of "professionalism". Another example: "that's not my file".

Going through the same issue, new coil packs and issue persist. Gone through the EGR system and intake. I've poured techron in my last tank, and I'm changing the transmission fluid tomorrow 7/5/19. I will post if anything changes. My Prius is worse with subtle acceleration, if I use power mode and slam the pedal it doesn't happen at all. I did find one post that stated the car needed to be driven hard after carbon cleaning. I also Seafoamed the intake system.

    Welcome to Prius Chat (y).

How many miles on your Prius?

    Is the coolant level stable?

    Any dash lights?

    Installed an oil catch can?

Good luck and keep us posted (y).

Check for combustion gasses in the radiator with this kit. Also, the "best" way to replace the headgasket is by decking the block and resurfacing the head. Which would mean stripping the block down. In case anyone happens across this old thread.

Doesn't hurt to check with a machinist's straight-edge and feeler gauges first. In particular with the block, since it's still installed, not necessarily going to a machine shop.

My old Gen 1 developed such a rattle at 198,000 miles. Never found the cause, and its 1NZ engine is different from third gen's 2ZR in several ways. Sold the car at 23x,000-something. I guess it wouldn't surprise me if there was more than one way "the" issue could be caused.

I very recently changed my spark plugs on my 2011 Prius. It had been doing the death rattle periodically for months prior. After the plug change it seemed to run better, then last week I got the P0303 code. After reading these forums extensively I checked my coolant overflow and noticed it islow. Hadn't checked it regularly. Should I suspect a bad plug first? Car has 226k.

Has the EGR and intake manifold ever been cleaned?

Haven't been monitoring regularly but noticed it is about a 1/2" below the low line.

Watch it for a week or two, see if it's stable. If you've got Toyota Super Long Life Coolant on hand, I'd top it up to the top line for starters.

    Same happened to me .
It was the egr rubber hose that I pulled by mistake. After inserting it, the car run very good.

If piston rings are gumming up it’ll still burn oil. OCC might help some though.
