    Hello, everyone
I don’t know if anyone has run into this with their 2010 Prius but me and my wife recently bought a used Prius and found out that the EGR Valve needed replacing after carbon deposits were found clogging the system. The mechanic then said the EGR Cooler needed to be cleaned out. Everything checked out, but once we get the car back, the car began to shake/stutter under us after a few minutes of driving. It is more noticeable after going high speeds such as getting on to a freeway on-ramp. The mechanic later told us that we either need to let the car relearn how to manage all the air that was being sent through the system because it was used to a clogged up one. Or he said if it doesn’t get fixed it would need the PCM to be flashed in order to reset all the cars settings. Has anyone had any experience with these issues? Any advice would be appreciated!

Obviously, your "mechanic" doesn't know much about a Prius.
And he only did part of the job. The egr valve needs to be cleaned, the pipe also.
And the intake manifold needs to be cleaned out. There is a hole for each cylinder from the egr circuit
to allow the intake to suck in the egr gasses. They need to be cleaned. Plus there is probably oil at the bottom
of the intake manifold. An OCC(oil catch can) would help.
There is nothing to "relearn" really.

Perhaps you are near someone here on Prius Chat that can help you out.

    Thanks for the response!

He actually replaced the EGR Valve since it was so clogged and cleaned the EGR Cooler, Intake and some pipes where the EGR gasses/coolant go through.

He even test drove the car with the old clogged EGR Valve and said the shaking stopped, so he told me that the car needed to be driven around with the nw valve so it “got used to it” or we would need to flash the PCM or something?

No coolant levels look good, I haven’t noticed any leaks or anything
And it currently has 155,000 miles and was serviced just last month at a Toyota dealership.

It might be that the EGR valve installed was an updated version. If this is the case, your ECU would need to be flashed by a dealer.

Any idea of how much that would cost?

This was debated once before, can't recall which way it ended up. Are you sure, anything to corroborate?

I'm not trying to be argumentative, just thinking to avoid a possible goose chase.

Yes I’m sure he cleaned everything. He recommended we drive it around town for a couple days so it can adjust to the new EGR valve, and after doing that the vibrating/shaking has been minimal.
