Yes, it came from Amayama... I went ahead and ordered it because I thought it was going to be needed (the crack we saw from the viewing window). So that's the only thing I'd possibly change about this whole thing if I did it over again, would be to not order a new one unless and until it was discovered that it did in fact NEED to be replaced.

Only thing is, if I wanted until they tore the car apart to fix it (for the damper) to find out it DID need a flywheel too, it would have then taken an additional 2 weeks or so, however long it would take to ship a flywheel separately... Which is why I just opted to replace it right off the bat while they were already in there to replace the damper. It's okay the situation wound up the way it did though, at the time I would not have had that additional TWO weeks to wait for my part/car...

Overall I am very happy and pleased with how things went! I think the only thing I wound up replacing that didn't necessarily NEED replacing was the flywheel. The car needed plugs/coils anyway since it was initially throwing a CEL/DTC for misfires! The car also needed to have the intake replaced since it had never been replaced under that TSB... PCV valve is something I'd replace at the same time I'm doing all these other repairs too, even if it didn't "need" to be... EGR was cleaned, a good "call" while doing all the other things we did. The integrity of the head gasket was confirmed... The way I'm seeing it is, most of this stuff was actually "routine maintenance"! The only thing that was a straight up repair was the damper assembly!

Next thing on my list will be brand new shoes (tires) all the way around, new brakes (rotors and pads), and new suspension w/ alignment all the way around. Only because I do not know the last time some of that was done (I've only had the car ~2 yrs), and I'll bet you I improve my fuel economy yet again by doing those things! A project for this summer! She's been taking care of me, so I have to take care of her! (I am a full time uber/lyft driver w/ this car). I tend to put 3-400 miles on her per working day!

It's ALWAYS better to be safe, than sorry!
It's better have it and not need it, then need it and not have it!

Until you tear it down, you don't really know what you actually need, you can only speculate.
By replacing the things you may not have really needed, you've given yourself peace of mind.
And pretty much gotten rid of the risk of the older part failing, possibly leaving you stranded.

I don't remember, did you have the head gasket replaced?

I did not personally have the head gasket done in this car, but while we had it on the lift it did appear there was evidence that it had been done in the past by a previous owner... My mechanic said he did verify the integrity of the H/G, and it is good...

+1 on Amayama, good pricing, shipping is priced fairly, and pretty quick service (I’m in Hawaii so they are closer to me than a lot of the US suppliers.) Currently their website notes they are not shipping overseas because of freight uncertainties related to COVID-19 crisis, hope they are back up soon.

This is no political forum but just wanted to correct for the record that what we have here in states is not china virus, this is european virus and that is suggested from recent studies into the virus. it is all over news btw New York coronavirus cases spread for months, came from Europe: Study

but yeah CORONA-VIRUS did impact not just logistics but pretty much LIFE as we knew it.

You are incorrect. Even china said it is from wuhan(spelling?).
    It IS the china virus.
    P.S.
I wasn't making a "political" statement. I was only stating that because of the china virus, it has cause a lot of disruption everywhere.

You should stop listening to the chinese propaganda group w.h.o.
The chinese said an American soldier in china started it. I didn't even know we had a base in china.

I suppose it would be more correct to call it the "wuhan" virus.

This is "Prius Chat". How about let's end this here and stick to Prius stuff?

all these articles are from jan, feb when it was believed to be only one type of virus. i was mentioning new research suggestion from later in march. information about this virus is drastically changing everyday. ofcourse chinese are doing their best efforts for propaganda and coverup how they messed it up in start theres no doubt about it. also only stupid would believe their numbers were 83k infected and merely 3300 deaths yeah right.
but i agree with you on that lets not be consumed by whats fact whats not about pandemic and stay on PRIUS and talking about prius, i just had hybrid battery code once again yesterday but this time it took way longer than 100 mile trigger. eventually i would wanna look into how i can do some test on battery to find out culprit module, any suggestions?
i do have moongoose cable and TIS but cant seem to find where i can look for more detailed info on hybrid battery in TIS.

hahahah lets focus on how to tackle finding the bad module.
i believe i came across some post where they ran some software on obdII module and graphed the reading and found the bad module or the ones deteriorating rapidly. cant seem to find again.

    What I learnt from your experience was;
    1. You fought a lot of WHAT IF, AND IF NOTS! That's OK, everyone goes through such a phase, when there are alot of IFs

    2. Your first experience with that shop, and their honesty, built much confidence in you, and that's y you took the dive. It was worth the risks. Was kinda like gambling.

    3. There are a lot of cheaper sources of online/offline alternatives to the mainstream parts out there, only if one has the patience, to search for them. You'd still get same results.
Just imagine, if Mendel, didn't point out that inline website, and him even pointing out how reliable they were, you'd have spent thousands much more $sss fixing that car.

    4. Sometimes, it just cool to believed our guts sometimes, and just take the risks.
Everything in life seems to me like a gamble.

Congrats you're back on the road dude!

A good shop is worth their weight in gold. Even they don't bat 100%, but are competent, fair priced and honest that is all you can ask for. (y)

Well I just got back to Chicago from a road trip to AZ in this car! Mileage went from the low 290k that I posted to 299k! It was darn near 2k just there and back (4k round trip), plus I spent ~ 2 weeks there!

The good news is, it got me there and back. The bad news is, one night after napping in the car at a truck stop somewhere in between Chicago, IL and Phoenix, AZ - it had a NASTY sounding cold start shake. It quickly went away and hasn't yet happened again. I don't know whether to dismiss as a fluke, or start diving into diagnose/repair mode again >.< All I know is the list of things it "shouldn't be" (all the stuff I just fixed/replaced)!

I guess for the time being I will just keep truckin' along since I blew my wad fixing the car and on the road trip! Hope it doesn't blow up on me! Even if it does, there's not much I can do financially. I'd have to go find a driving job that utilizes a company car/vehicle to save up $$$!

As always, will keep the thread posted/informed!
