Well, did a sniff test, similar "bouquet" for both. I looked at both again this morning. I'd say the #1 is what I'd typically drain in the spring. Both in appearance and quantity. Considering such a short interval maybe a bit more than usual. I did add a baffle (detailed a few pages back) to both, to make the air flow a bit more circuitous.

The right one seems like new stuff. It's stratified more overnight, there's a thin, dark/opaque layer near the top, maybe oil with a few flecks of latte (water). The bottom layer, which is really predominant, is amber and definitely transparent. Not sure what that'd be. Gas/oil mix??

Looks like #2 is the stuff that flows backwards from the manifold, every time the engine shuts off there is a slight amount of back pressure, so the gas and water make there way down the hose to collect.

You have it set up PCV -> hose-> OCC #1 (Jar Right) -> hose -> OCC #2 (Jar Left) -> hose -> Intake Manifold?

EDIT: Oops I think I got that reversed, was can #2 on the left?

Could be, all the hoses run downhill to the catch cans. Either way, I'll take it. (y)

I agree, It is better to catch all that in a can, rather than compress it in your chamber.:cautious:

Yup. In the pics #1 collection jar is on the left. And #1 get's it's input from the PCV valve. Outlet goes to #2 input. #2's output goes to intake manifold.

It would be interesting to know if the contents in #2 are flammable, and if there is much of a residue after combustion.

Send the jars over to "Project Farm" YouTube Chanel, have him run tests.

Updated pic, more stratified. #1 on left as usual. #2 bottom layer is definitely clear, though amber colour.

Almost seems like a continuation of some spectrum started in #1

I installed an oil catch can on “my other car” last week. Install came out very clean; looks stock. Highlighted in red so you can see it, and then with the engine cover on. As my friends know, I like to keep my engines clean:

    It's one with a dipstick:).

Similar to what I had on our old Prius that I mounted low;).

    Nice choice @Rebound (y).

I can see it has a dipstick... Hey if it's at least 2 C notes, I'm kinda interested. :ROFLMAO: Looks slick.

Updated on jar #2: the bottom layer appears to be water. I used a spare spray can straw as a pippet, extracted a drop. It had a slight oily feel (likely from dipping through the top layer), but mostly just evaporated.

@Cosmo Tigato postulated the can #2 catch might be drain from the intake manifold, but I don't think so, considering where the PCV hose connects to the intake manifold, on a spigot fairly high up the the sidewall.

I think it's just another "fraction" of what comes through, that normally does make it to the intake. About 3/4 water though.

Minor mod: replaced the extended drain spigots with plugs. Even with the cans up pretty much as high as practical in the mounting bracket, the projection of those spigots was making me nervous: it's roughly flush with the underside of the front beam, but...

The plugs are really just insurance, in case the tap above doesn't 100% seal.

JEGS is an interesting website, they offer brand name and house-brand OCC's. Lots of fittings too. Read the first few pages of this thread, @danlatu has lots of good tips on how to plumb the can.

Coles Notes version of the plumbing, the way most are going:

Cut the OEM PCV hose at the middle, push on 3/8" hose splicers *, run 3/8" SAE30R6/7 fuel line to and from your can. Most are using hose clamps at all connections, but I'm thinking now that's overkill.

    * You can either use barb or PEX style. The barb style is more-or-less permanent, very hard to pull the hose off after. One thing I've done is get barb style, mount them in a drill press, and just slightly blunt the sharp edges with a file. They're still very tight, but if you have to you can pull them off, with effort.

That OEM PCV hose is relatviely cheap if you want to restore the car to stock, under $10 USD.

I have an OCC installed that have dipstick and I added a brass filter that should work well in filtering the oil. It is the same as the one done by the famous Nutzaboutbolts. I also reuse the original hose and did not cut it. I wanted to preserve the original as much as possible so restoring will be just plugging back the original hose into PCV. Mine is also mounted at the top next to right headlamp. Easier access for maintenance. You can check out my video (badly made) to get more idea to maybe improve it. Get it installed. OCC is good. I have some oil slug in my other car that I installed few months back. Also, thanks to the community here I learned more about OCC before installing mine.
