I was looking up on forums on the prius noise it makes while in drive and reverse. I undid my bumper and saw this little guy. Now I know I’m gonna get some stubborn people saying.. this and that I don’t care!!

This is for people wondering how to get rid of it. I don’t wanna see comments on it’s the law and whatnot lol

Well, it is the law and it's for the people to hear you coming that might not be able to see you coming. Might save a life if it were there.

My tesla 3 doesn’t make any noise so I’ll leave that at the table.

Technically it doesn't have to be there until September of this year, but I truly detest when people disable safety features. I'm a disabled person, so maybe I'm too sensitive about it, but I'm not changing anytime soon...

Don't really care about fiddling with Vehicle Proximity Notification System (VPNS) for I can't even hear that noise sitting on driver seat especially with windows up. My question to OP is how hard was it to remove the bumper? I want to wrap or do some protective paint coating on the acrylic part of the grill cover. Was is easy as removing a few screws and fasteners or does it involves detaching many sensor wirings? Can it be done by one person without any special tools?

All you need is a 10 and a panel poper. So easy to take off you can do it wjth one person. Just add some blanket on the floor so when you place the bumper down on the floor, I’m going to paint that piece too! And change the emblem in front

That picture fascinates me. Under the sleek exterior shell, what a, a: well this comes to mind:

You dare to come to me for a heart, do you?
    You clinking, clanking, clattering
    collection of caliginous....

Amazing what you can find these days, btw:

    A thought for you:

Instead of permanently disabling it, install a simple on/off switch or something like a Deans connector so that it can easily be plugged back in at a later date.

Hehe... you could of course do some modifications on your prime. See the link below. Not saying you should go out and do this. But you could.

I kind of like the whirring sound it makes. Anecdotally, I feel it makes people in parking lots move out of my way when they wander into the center of the lane

Its is much less work to lift the hood and remove the upper panel and remove the wires on the noise maker! For others interested in a quite auto.

other than hearing the wheels rolling, a lot of people are oblivious that there's a car behind them.

Also it's softer than the new Toyotas - the Camry and RAV4 have (relatively) loud VPNS compared to the Gen 4 or Prius Prime.

I can't hear mine in the garage with the windows down. Not sure how effective it is, but I have some pretty serious doubts. I should look to see if the original owner disconnected it.

I can't hear mine either, but I've never been in a garage with the windows down. (and I know mine is not disconnected.)
