I have a 2006 Toyota Prius. It does NOT have the JBL premium sound system or the Navigation system. It does have the nifty plasma screen control center that they all have.

I'm looking to integrate XM Radio with the Factory Head Unit. Can anyone offer some suggestions?

I've see a few places that claim to sell products to do this. Does anyone know if they're all selling the same thing or are they different? If so, what option is best?

    For referrence, see:
    http://www.vaistech.com/slx.html
    http://www.coastaletech.com/xm_radio_in_prius.htm
    http://www.factoryinteractive.com/PriusXM/

    Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Metro Toyota also has the built-in as a DIY for $250, with 90-day free XM service.

I believe they're the same unit, just different prices.

Thanks for the tip. Their website says that what they have is for 2004-5, but doesn't mention 2006. I'll contact them and see what I can find out. That would be the best deal I've seen thus far.

oops... my bad. Looks like this is whats needed for a 2006, with the total coming to $250

    Toyota XM Satellite Radio
Fit Kit Prius 2006 # Any Model $85.00

    Toyota XM Satellite Radio
Base Kit Prius 2006 # Any Model $165.00

Does anyone know if this unit provides the 10 charater per line display or the 16 charater per line display characteristics??

I'm going to answer my own question... I just heard from the dealer. The unit they sell is the 16 character per line unit, at least for the 2006.

I ordered one. At $250 and with free activation and 3 free months of service, it seemed like a great deal to me. UPS shipping only came to $7.60. They also said they'd send along or email installation instructions.

Thanks aaf709 and BobZ for your help!

Did you get an installation manual from Coastal? I didn't get anything and don't know where to start.

Metro Toyota has some installation instructions. They should be the same. I don't think that you have to remove all of the dash, though. You can get to the connector in the back of the radio by removing the lower glove box and the A/C vent cover to the right of the MFD. There's a white block of wires that you move aside by removing a screw.

I have a 2006 Prius and I had to call Metro Toyota to get the instructions. They faxed them to me and they are different from the instructions for the 2004/5.

Well, I just installed the XM Radio for my 2006 Prius that I ordered from Metro Toyota. It only displays 10 characters despite being assured by Jesse Wright that it would display 16 characters.

The part # they shipped me was 86180-0W030 (XM Tuner Base Kit).

    The Barcode shows: GEX-M8067XMZT/XNUC

Either this is the wrong part or they lied to me. I expect it's the wrong part.

Can anyone with the 16 line display post the part number for their tuner? I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow.

What did you find out? I just had mine installed today in my 2006 and only have 10 characters. Same part #. Base radio, no nav, no JBL.

So far I haven't heard any good explanation. Apparently we all should be getting 16 characters, but we don't. :/

I'm trying to do some research on this. Can you answer two questions for me?

    - Does your radio have the Aux jack in the center console? There are three versions of the radio: 1) no aux, no JBL, no nav, 2) aux, no JBL, no nav, 3) aux, JBL, nav.

    - What MFD do you have? There are three versions shown in the owners manual. Type 1, type 2, or type 3? You can tell by comparing the screen displays in manual to what is on your screen.

My 06 does not have the Aux jack and is MFD type 3. The car is a base model, no packages.

The way I understood it was JBL cars display 16 digits and non JBL cars display 10

This is what is confusing. There are 2006 owners that get the 16 digit display with the non-JBL base system.

Click here for a thread started by an owner with a non-JBL system that does get the 16 character display.

Check the post from PriusInsight in this thread.

There are many reports of non-JBL system owners with a 16 character display.

Sorry for the delayed response, I was out of town for a while.

My radio is no aux, no JBL, no NAV and it's stamped 51830. My MFD is type 3. No frills... that's what the dealer had coming in before the September 30th cut off date and so we took it.
