No READY LIGHT, car can't start!

    1. The shifter shows the gear shift levels, when shifted when you put the ignition to the ON position.
    I might have to get a shifter somewhere, and swapped em.
    2. Which of the 12V relays you talking about?
    3. On disconnecting the negative aux battery terminal, be did that to see if the car would start.
    After several attempts, it didn't start according to him.
    4. Service plug when inserted properly, showed 218VDC on the battery side of the contactor relay assembly.
    That tells me, I still got some juice in the pack.
    All block voltages were showing a consistent 15....volts via tech stream.

    What I intend to the next:
    1. Get another battery of 13V now
    2. Fob closer to the fob slot, and even maybe replace the fob battery key.
    3. Check the shifter knob
    4. Check the brake light switch

    Here's a question.
    If the shifter indicator on the dashboard comes ON, at every shifter movements, doesn't that depicts power from the aux battery is sufficient enough to power the contactor's so that the HV relays permits HV from the pack to the inverter assembly area?
    I know its the hv ECU that sends a dedicated 12volts to the contactor relay assembly, in order to open the HV relays.
    Maybe a problem with the hv ECU power supply circuitry (an open)?

    Isn't it possible for a failed DC-dc assembly to caused this problem?
    I had a similar experience some months back, where a customer's highlander suddenly stalled in motion.
    Car couldn't start. In his case, he had check hybrid system ON, and got the car scanned. Codes were retrieved, and after getting a used unit, the vehicle started.

    I'm just thinking this current Prius might be the same.
    Difference here was that there wasn't any codes stored, since this client had already disconnected the aux battery to clear codes.

    That's kinda why I asked if any codes were thrown after it stalled.

    I wasn't there when it stalled.
    Owner reported the issue, and I told him to disconnect the aux terminal to reset any codes.

    Too bad.
    Would of been easier to diagnose if the codes weren't reset.

    You refer to the owner as a client.
    Do you work as a mobile mechanic?

    Yes, I do sometimes, if I'm not busy in the shop?
    Distance where the car is is just too far.
    Iight have to asked for the Prius to be towed o er to the shop on a loadbed for parts swapping:D

    Welcome.
    If it is not coming in READY mode and the triangle light is lit there ARE codes. Not all code readers can interpret the Prius specific codes.

    What is the condition of your 12 volt battery? If it is low the computers in the car get confused, causing all sorts of strange codes & symptoms.

    Low would be 8.5 - 10 V.

    I thought 11.5 volts or less was considered low.

    Do your dashboard lights get lit? If it does not, check the condition of 12V battery. If the dashboard lights are lit, and OK, probably the HV battery has issues, or the AM2 fuse has blown(the one that controls the inverter pump).

    I probably worded that wrong in relation to your statement. Yes it is low, but those strange things will not happen at 11.5 V or that it necessarily means the 12 V battery needs to be replaced. But you wouldn't think so when you read some a lot of posts around PC.

    Besides which, the recent poster's car is a Gen 3, so really he should be posting in the Gen 3 forums. What we know about Gen 2s might not apply, or apply differently to another Gen of Prius.

    I thought @Mendel Leisk said that voltage level had to do with it being an ACM battery used in both Gen 2 and Gen 3.

    AGM? I can't really comment. For sure there are slight voltage level differences between AGM and flooded Pb/A. I think the bigger problem is people seem to be getting too tunnel-visioned fixating on 12 V battery voltage.

    I think we've seen enough posts here in PC now in the vein of people reporting they thought buying a new 12 V battery and swapping it in would fix all their problems, only to find it fixed nothing and they were $1xx -$2xx out of pocket.

    You also get those like my son who replaced the 12 volt battery on his 8 year old Prius as cheap insurance it would not cause a problem. He ended up trading it in 2 years later for a Prius v.

    Agreed. My '05 was down to 8.5V and the only way I found out was noticing that the brake pump would run a really long time when I put the car in READY. No other indications.

    But I'm also kind of curious, @Dxta. Did you figure out the problem that started this thread?
