Yap, I can confirm the 2020 PRIME has plastic cover not metal like my previous 2017 PRIME.

I keep forgetting to check and see how mine is doing. Gonna do it right now.

I'm back. As much of it as I can see is still rust free, so they did a good job of prepping and painting at least that part. But I need to get it inside the garage and away from the bright sky so I can see into the shadows better.

So what is the repair procedure they recommended? I traded in my 2017 PRIME to 2020 PRIME. Yap, they changed the material used on that piece, so no longer an issue.

Yes, please @Flaming. I'd really appreciate being able to print that out and take it to the shop if it looks better than the bandaid treatment I got.

Did anyone notice that that TSB says Market Canada? I wonder if there will be a separate one to cover the USA market?

My friend got it fixed prior the covid-19 lockdown. I will have it done at the next available schedule. It seems it was replaced with 2019/2020 version.

Awesome. I'd have to take some stuff apart to know for sure, but I think that's what the Toyota Body shop did with mine. I know they sanded, prepped, and painted. Just not sure how deeply they delved. I might just rent the manual so I can see where to pry so I can check on it.

The later model year Primes have a plastic piece. Wouldn't it just be simpler to swap? They budget 2.5 hours for the repair.

Is this something they’ll cover out-of-warranty? I see the “red box” warranty coverage statement, but this seems a fairly clear manufacturing defect, IMO.

I don't feel good about this. Toyota has waited until most of the 2017 models are out of warranty to post this repair to which is obviously a manufacturing defect that they knew about in 2018 and fixed with a manufacturing change. This is not the Toyota company that I have respected for years.

Looking at McGeorge Toyota parts I believe the part is around $60, which seems a lot, as usual. But manufacturing cost, especially the plastic (rust proof) version is likely peanuts.

Telling dealerships to devote hours painting over rust seems a little absurd.
