    hello!
    I recently purchased a used 2018 Prius C series 4, 18K miles.
Installed an intake I had from my old 2007 yaris, needed a few mods but got it working, installed a new filter.
after driving fro 20 minutes I get a check engine light, codes are:
P0101 - Out of spec reading from MAF - vacuum leak, unexpected extra air not measured by sensor entering
    P0171 - Too lean
I have pulled the battery cable, reset the codes, driven for about 40 minutes but they keep reappearing. I just tried sealing all the piping with silicone, maybe that will help.
Anyone else get these errors with an intake mod? I mean they make sense, its getting more air, but I figured after a while it will learn that the intake is bigger and get used to it. thoughts?
I seems to run fine and MPG is unchanged.

wow this forum is dead. is there a FB group or something?
anyways, I figured out the issue. the pipe for the new intake was slightly larger than the old where the MAF sits, therefore letting in more air than the MAF can account for, causing the pinging. I ordered an injen intake, screw this.

Very few people do engine mods on a Prius.
No point. Therefore not much information.

I suggest that you put it back stock.

Whatever "Mods" you did to make it work, you have a leak somewhere in the airflow downstream of the MAF, or you damaged the MAF or wiring.

And no, there are plenty of people running intakes from Injen, HKS etc who have no issues.

As I mentioned, it was because the diameter of the intake I was using is larger than what the MAF expects - it has to match exactly. but I ordered an injen instead of messing around, I put the stock one back on for now and its back to working normally.

You don't need an injen intake to fix the issue. You can order a MAF tuner and simply correct the sensor, or go to any automotive store and get a maf pipe in the right size.

You don't need to weld anything on the air intake side, you can use rubber intake couplers.

You can alter the signal from the MAF using a variety of "ECU tuners" available from Japan. They adjust the voltage output of the MAF through a potentiometer or switch.
