Last time I went, there was one guy ahead of me in the line. By the time they let us in (7 am), there was maybe 4 more folks behind me (all spaced). Yeah, definitely have a list. No panic though, just another day at the store. No self-serve check out either; I can't see that working with loose produce?

Obviously depends where you are and what delivery service you are using. On Tuesday evening we ordered groceries from Meijer (Midwest chain) via Shipt, and they were delivered yesterday (Wednesday) morning.

we will not go to the store unless we can't get delivery. yes, it's frustrating and expensive, but there are too many horror stories around here about customers not behaving correctly, and i'm concerned about the air in the stores and the ability for a mask to protect.
maybe if we were more rural, i might give it a try, but everything's jammed around here, and senior hour is worse than later.

we have gotten used to delivery (me more than mrs b, she's a shopper) i just hope we can keep getting it.

they just closed a massachusetts walmart with 23 associates testing positive.

Most of the stores around us have an SKU sticker on each produce. Yeah even on loose veggie and fruit. If a barcode is not on it, I can type in the SKU number. If no sticker, I can look-up the item from the touch panel search function. Placing the item on the table automatically weight the produce for /lb priced items. In most cases, the self-serve check-out is quicker than waiting for the cashier line.

Several weeks back, I was quite unhappy with a Home Depot self-check visit. The earlier flatbed scanners are gone, replaced by handheld scanners that must be picked up. It also required too many touchpad operations, and the pad could not read through the gloves I had. At a followup visit, the clerk checkout worked out much better, nearly touchless and no line.

My only Costco visit since restrictions began, earlier this week, had a much better self-check experience.

Yeah, self-check registration operation varies from store to store somewhat. In my experience, there is almost always longer lines in cashier, but hardly never in self-check. The touch pad operation is some concern, but I keep a sanitizer wipe with me, and knuckle of finger to operate the pad.

The store itself has deliveries and at 8 PM each day, they open up four slots that you really have to jump on. Well, I gave it a shot and actually got through to grab the next to last slot. I placed a nice big order, so if I need anything else, I can do an in and out in the fast lane, or hit the convenience store for something quick.

I'm hearing from my friends on the Arizona side of the river that shortages have gotten worse in the last week. I'm sure part of it is a supply line problem but most of it is due to the large influx of California residents ignoring the lockdown in their own state and coming out here, stripping the shelves of food and supplies ordered for the local residents. The river and lakes are loaded with visitors taking advantage of the low fuel prices to use their jet skis and boats here instead of staying home..

One friend went to Sam's Club this morning and was faced a parking lot full of California license plates on customers' cars. The store had no paper towels, almost no beef or chicken (with a limit of one package of meat of any kind per customer), no disinfectant wipes or sprays, etc. On the flip side, though, he said he counted 33 pallets of their private label toilet paper.

a lot of towns around here are trying to prevent summer residents from moving in. afraid they'll deplete the food and medical service

That's pretty grim. Up here (today) it wax max of two of beef, pork and poultry, just on the fresh stuff. So you could have six fresh meat packs max, 2 of each.

Would that be just fresh meat? Not lunch meats, hot dogs/smokies, frozen patties or sausage?

The limit applied to any fresh meat at the meat counter including the fresh bacon and sausages. No limits on the prepackaged sausages and lunch meats in the refrigerated/frozen cases.

The Burger King "Impossible Burgers" are quite tasty . . . per wife and her dogs. I like 'em too now that they are affordable.

Shopping in our local Giant at 6am, Sunday mornings have worked out well. Seniors only, very few people, everything on the list is there, some items are limited (enough for us), in/out 15 minutes. We get back, disinfect everything, clothes in the washer, showers, and done!

Wow, I don't go that far. Wash hands after, wait a while before consuming produce, and wash it, in particular fruit not being cooked.

One thing: "we"? Just one person going shopping, improves the odds a bit.
