    Okay, thanks, that makes sense.

I wonder if Toyota would actually publicize it if they did have to halt production for a while.

Given the reason it would be very understandable if they did, but it would be good to know if they did have to temporarily halt production.

Thanks for sharing that, very informative, and explains some of the ways (quote from article) "some companies have adjusted the industry’s famed “Just in Time” production philosophy in a bid to limit any repeat of the costly global disruption.(end quote)

So in this instance I guess "no news is good news" since we haven't heard of any disruption in the production of the Prime.

When we ordered ours in early January the dealer said 8-12 weeks. 12 weeks would be Early April.
When I emailed recently to check on any possible issues due to the virus disruptions, the dealer said no issues, but quoted late April/early May as expected delivery.

Thanks for sharing that, it is encouraging to hear as far as there being "no issues", we ordered about the 3rd week in January and was told about 90-120 days, looks like your salesperson's revised estimate puts your wait at roughly about the same time length (which I guess is the standard waiting time), though I hope both our cars get delivered on the sooner side :D

I'm genuinely curious why you order the car? It has 3 trims and few extra options. I would think these cars are pretty fungible. I did order a corvette at one point, but that was a dream car and I wanted it exactly how I wanted it. Even still, the wait was so unbearable that in retrospect I should have just got one off the lot.

Unfortunately in some regions of the country it is very rare to find hardly any Prius Primes in stock sitting on the lot.

Back in January when we went to get a 2020 Prius Prime XLE there was only one XLE in the entire southeast Toyota region of the country at the time and it was in blizzard white a color we did not want, we wanted magnetism blue, so we had to order to get what we wanted.

In our case the wait is not a problem, we actually preferred having to wait because by the time it arrives we will be in a position to make a much bigger down payment then if they had what we wanted in stock in January.

GKL explained exactly what the situation was. I had 20+ dealer website searches saved across Oklahoma, Texas and Arkansas. It was basically impossible to find one in stock - and therefore very difficult to get a dealer to negotiate on price.

We had found one XLE on a lot and test-drove it, but they were not very flexible on price and then bumped price even higher with some dealer add-ons when we tried to negotiate again 2 days later.

After many emails and calls, we finally had a dealer in Tulsa -(2 hr drive for us)- offer to place an order for an XLE with no add-ons that met our price criteria.

We just picked it up on May 1, 2020. Details are in 'Prices Paid thread'.

Congrats on getting your car !!!!

Thanks for sharing that, people in regions like the northeast and California where Toyota dealers do stock plenty of Primes are sometimes surprised that in some other regions Primes are extremely rare in stock.

I read that you ordered in January, was it early January ?

The reason I ask is ours was ordered about the last week of January and we are still waiting on ours, have not got any report on any VIN being generated yet either, no big deal since we are not in a rush, but just wondering.

Congrats! When I ordered my 2017 it was one approx #30 in the whole state. A guy living in Lawton ordered one from an OKC dealership and backed out after it arrived so I did get to see one and sit in it, but no test drives back then. Now I see a lot of Primes in the area.

I thought it was Jan 5, but I guess we still had more details to negotiate and it was actually Jan 18 for the date we put the 500 down to confirm order.

There looks to be a few more on dealer websites now as well (as in 4 total in the State of Oklahoma - only one XLE lol)...

Thanks, if ours follows roughly the same basic timeframe then we might have ours by the end of the month, but maybe not because I would think the dealership would be aware of when the vehicle is being put on the ship to be shipped which I would think would be at least 3 weeks before arriving here (if not longer) so I would have to think we'd have heard by now if it was due to arrive by the end of the month.

I am shocked that you’re still waiting. How can it be that we ordered around the same time and I got mine in February?

No problem, I think I understand the reason for your misunderstanding......

If you got yours that fast I would think it had to be one already built and already somewhere stateside (or maybe it was already on the ship on it's way here), ours was a factory order where the order went to the factory in Japan and they have to build it and ship it to the states, the shipping part itself likely takes about 3 to 4 weeks, and the time it takes for our order to actually make it to the assembly line can vary but could take from about 2 to 3 months and maybe longer.

on the plus side, you can't drive anyway, so you're saving money, and your 12v isn't dying

Well, not driving as much as before, my wife's job stayed open but it's only about a 2 mile commute and she'll occasionally pick up groceries on the way home.

Still on the plus side is by the time it does get here we'll have an even bigger down payment !

I can't say if things work the same up in Canada but I learned in the U.S. there are "carb" and "non-carb" states and Toyota has more of a motivation and incentive to sell low emission cars like hybrids in the "carb" states.

That is why some regions of the U.S. there are hybrids in stock sitting on the dealership lots, and other regions where it is usually very rare to find some.

From what I learned it seems each Toyota region is like an independent corporation and only seems to like to work with only the dealerships in their own region and not deal with other regions, so if your region does not have the model you want you order from Japan. There might possibly be very rare exceptions but that seems to be the norm.
