They will not ship a battery. If they did it would be very expensive FOB. But no dealer will go through that afaik.if they did you still would have to ship your core back $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Shipping 316.55X2(round trip)=633.1+1560= 2193.1+ installation if you can’t do it but any DIY can handle this job after a quick YouTube video instruction, price include core$1350.

I hope you noticed the 30% discount is no longer available, and the price jumped up to a whopping $2,910. I'm pretty sure when you actually go to check out there is no shipping option, it will change to only offer pick up. As well as that your shipping estimate is to IN not FL.

Actually, the $2,910 is made up of the discounted sale price of $1,560 plus the core charge of $1,350, which should be refundable. Camelback Toyota in Phoenix, AZ is 1,698 miles from Indianapolis, IN per Google maps a little shorter than the 2,192 miles to Clearwater, FL from Phoenix, but I would think the freight charge would not be that much more. And Camelback is quoting their shipping cost and appears to be saying the quote of $316.55 it is higher than expected because the shipment contains hazardous materials, a pretty good indication that they would be willing to ship, it seems. If our Gen 2 did not have so many miles on the clock, I think I might be a customer.

That’s not the only place, that only was the cheapest one at the moment of my search, my point is $5000 is not a reasonable price and sounds to me as doubled or as much you can buy another Prius G2, feel free to give thousands of you hard earned money to the local stealership of you area, or find a way to get to a dealer with a competitive price, you can take you core with you that way you don’t have to come back.

Of course, yes, that makes a whole lot more sense.
I agree with you, 100%. $5,000 is a ridiculous price, but it is the price given to Ed by his local dealer and not so long ago, so somebody is having a laugh.

It is good to see the OEM price more often being around the $1,600 - $1,700 mark for the battery part, for online at least. It doesn't seem to be reflected in the price when a dealer is quoting the job for service dept walk-ins.

The main battery was the problem. Does $1,890 sound fair for a refurb, installed and 2 year warranty ?

You can buy all new modules for that price. If you buy new, the warranty is not that important. If you buy second-hand you can guarantee you will need it and use it. So it begs the question why would you even consider buying a second-hand battery?

$5000 is the price for a person who knows nothing about this car nothing about the battery and is at the mercy of the dealership which is right where they want you.

Referencing that price to what YOU can buy what YOU can do is meaningless. Then saying price is outrageous. Where have you been?
Everything the dealer touches is outrageous.

Dealer rate here is $150 an hour last I asked.

Its a great tool to get them to buy a new car. They then give you nothing for your car on the trade in then roll it out to the auction the next day few days later its sitting on the local used car rip off center to off load it to the next chump who wants a "deal and has heard all the talk about 50mpgs on a Prius" who then becomes the newest member of priuschat wanting to know what all the lights on the dash mean and whats a hybrid battery?

    Ahh the wheel of life....

I agree with you it will be meaningless for many ones here, I guess I make a mistake thinking that if anyone is looking what those lights on the dashboard mean is because they are DIY persons, if you can’t work in you car, is not to much benefit coming here to get the answer to anyway go to the dealer, regarding where I been I retired from my old dealer job and while I worked at the new car dealer I have the opportunity to be a part department representative for 3 years and I learn enough how to keep my money in my pocket, I don’t know how much time you have to work to make $5000 (after tax) but for me am not rich that why and driving a old car in the first place, I will take the time to go and even if I drive 24 hours round trip if am keeping about $3000 in my pocket for 24 hours of my time I will do it without hesitation, I will take the core with me to avoid a second trip, I will not buy a refurbished battery and in case I don’t buy new I will change the bad cells my self.

Looks like a great deal from Camelback. $3225 up front then when they get the core back refunds you the $1350.

But bringing the core to them is nice. Don't have to wait on your core refund. Worth a long drive.
Let us know how it goes I may go this route also. You cannot beat a new factory pack. Mine lasted 10 years.

I miss having a good battery in my 07. Mine has been prolonged a few times over 3 years and its ok stays in the blue but does not have the power a new pack had.

With this plan, just be aware the OEM HV battery is not a plug-n-play drop-in replacement, so bring some tools with you and find a place to work as you will need to swap over some of your parts to the new battery case – mostly the electronic on the left side. You better be sure also that you swap everything you need before turning in the core, too. The best idea would be to swap in the new battery and make sure the car is running before turning in the core.

Thank you for the suggestion am aware, taking the complete battery core and do the components swap before you leave the dealer will ensure you got all the parts, but it’s you call if you want to drive the car with a bad battery or just drive another car with the core and the tools in the trunk.

Got a new battery and pick it up from the shop (non dealer) I found a few places in town that do the work. Will it take time for the battery to charge to green? I live about 5 miles from the place and it was only in the blue when I got home. MPGs appear to be going up I noticed just in my short trip home. appreciate everyone's help. While I am not a DIY guy I do like verifying knowledge with those that do. I just don't like taking someone's word for it when they are taking my money.

the battery does not 'charge up to green'

it tends to stay in the middle, and can fluctuate fro 8 green full bars to 2 purple lo bars
