I am unsure if it is a Gen 2 model, or whatever trim it has since it's my first car and my father bought it for me.

Anyways-- So, recently I decided to try out the AUX for my dad and I when we drive cause we are getting tired of Sirius XM and CDs, and we bought a cord at Walmart. It's a 3.55(or 3.5?) mm cord and it works for both the car pluggin and my phone. I also know the location of the AUX pluggin, which for my car it is under the center storage container (cup-holder thing).

When I plugged it in, I saw the AUX button light up on Sources and I switched to it. No error came up, just "Connected". However, when I started to play the music from my phone, it was either nothing or static. I tried it on both my father's phone and mine; his being a Samsung Galaxy S7, mine a Samsung Galaxy S5 (both faily old model phones.) I'm thinking it could the a phone issue and it doesn't work with our model? So, I might reboot my old phone and try that, but other than that I really don't know what the issue is.

I have read other posts about this (with older models though) issue, however they all say it's either a malfunction with parts or the cord may not be right? I made sure it was the right cord, but I dont know what I am doing wrong.

Please help! It's important that I can use the AUX on my car, and I really dont want to have to afford for work done on it and make my dad pay so much money for one simple issue.

P.S We bought the car practically new. No scratches or fender-benders. It was owned by an old couple who rarely travelled and then donated to the local TOYOTA dealership.

I'll take a stab at it since I use AUX in my 2011. Maybe similar systems. I have a Prius 3 with the navigation system and the JBL entertainment system which consists of an AM/FM/SAT/CD/AUX and connections via a 3.5 mm stereo plug or and the AUX USB plug located in the center console. I use an Apple iPod 7th generation player (the last one made) with the Apple lightning to USB cable to attach the iPod. It fully integrates with the JBL system to show me a list of all the music I have up on the MFD, and can play, pause, and skip around in the list using the MFD touchscreen controls, the steering wheel controls, or the controls on the iPod. It's rather nice for my purposes. There is also the capability to connect devices via Bluetooth through a pairing procedure. I've noticed an audio volume reduction using Bluetooth so I prefer the wired connection. BTW, this information and more are contained in a separate user manual that should have accompanied your vehicle owners manual. A careful study of these documents is highly recommended. Anyway, from what you write I am assuming you have connected an Android phone to the system via the 3.5 mm stereo jack. I have duplicated the steps you took using my phone as a music source and a 3.5 mm male to male stereo cable. When I plugged the cable into the port in the center console the AUX tab did illuminate as you observed. Then I plugged the other end of the cable into my phone. Then I cued up some appropriate music and it played just fine. So I would recommend you check your 3.5 mm stereo cable for continuity or swap it out with a known good cable, then try some other sources of audio. And track down that separate user manual, titled Navigation System Owner's Manual. I have an extract pdf document of Chapter 6 from that manual that deals with the Audio system I could upload if that would help.
