Good deal...I knew eventually the 07's would be included in the credit bracket. After looking at the chart on that link, after this day next year (Oct 07) there will no longer be any credit given. I wonder how that will affect sales then?

Don't forget that there's plenty of us who pay the Alternative Minimum Tax for whom the tax credit is of little use. It got me interested in the Prius, but once I found that out, it could no longer be a deciding factor. The car itself is what sold me.

Sadly, there are probably quite a few people that didn't know about AMT. So they'll be in for a surprise next spring. It's a government trick that was ignored when the credit was being formulated. Some complained, but it fell on deaf ears. Of course, the threshold quantity/timing was an issue too.

Probably the gas prices a year from now will determine the sales as much as anything else, but with no tax credit after Oct. 07 it will certainly help the leasing of the Prius and the sales of lightly used versions.

 

Excellent news! Now I have a chance to get an '07 with the full credit, AND an HOV sticker!

Actually, the full tax credit ended Oct 1st, 2006 But you can still can half.

Any rumors that the credit will be restored to its full $3,150 level for 2007 models? I wonder, as gas gets cheaper, if the feds will decide to "help" sales of hybrids again.

It doesnt show the split for 07. Somewhere I read it is cut in half as of 4/1. Does that still stand? Kinda ironic, I didnt know about the credit until after I bought the car.

You gotta love how the 2008 Escape/Mariner SUV hybrids get a $2K credit whereas the 2008 Pree gets nothing. In fairness, I do know that Toyota would've maxed out its credits. (They are given in # to each manufacturer.)

I wonder if the Aura will qualify. I don't see the Altima on there, either.

After Ford sells 60,000 hybrids their credit will drop to zero. It's not the government's fault the Big 3 haven't sold hybrid vehicles over the last 7 years. If Toyota had a marketing advantage in the past because only their cars were eligible for the credit, now it is time for the Big 3's marketing advantage. IMO everyone is being treated equally by the same rules.

 

Hmm Methinks we will be checking out an Escape Hybrid next year. Privided it has enough room for two full size car seats, a teenager, and 3 adults.
