Reality Check... are some Prius owners acting more like cult members?

You're right, on a certain level the Prius is "just a car". But it is also a very remarkable vehicle. So if, at times, we come off as raving looneys you'll just have to excuse us. There's some really crazy "stuff" going on in this world and if we can find some enjoyment in worshipping our car - well, it sounds pretty harmless to me...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was something to do with me being in California. Most Harley riders I've seen here are just weekend warriors who wish they were "badass" (which is why they ride the ultimate image bike to begin with). That probably accounts for the attitude. :D

Okay, I'll come clean about the handicapped spot...

I was dating this guy in high school. We pulled into this mall parking lot, in his car, and happened to drive by a car occupying the only HC spot in the area.

He immediately got bent out of shape and slammed the car into reverse, then stopped and (I'm still grossed out about this decades later) "hucked a lugey" (sp?) on the windshield.

He'd just started telling me what an a**hole whomever was, to use that spot when the windshield wipers and washers of that car came on; what had happened was that there really *was* someone in the car (and handicapped, no less) and he just didn't see them.

I took a few things away from that incident:
--spitting on someone's windshield can send mixed messages.
--there are often times when it's best not to jump to a conclusion.
--guys who have this proclivity prob'ly aren't my type.

Ever since this incident, I've been more about feigning normalcy in order to become part of the system...and then subverting changes from within.

My my my, aren't we the bright little ray of sunshine?. I've never seen such vitriol outside of FHOP. And a personal attack, too.

Have you considered therapy? Or, as others have suggested, ignoring the so-called kooks rather than poking them with a stick and asking "what their problem is"?

Just a friendly suggestion from someone who hasn't named his car.

I don't know about that electric blanket, but I'm seriously considering a block heater on a timer. Even in mild-winterish Raleigh, the gas mileage hit from the warm up cycle is something to be considered.

Come on Billy Boy, you know you've seen that scene in the movie where the guy is there and the Freaks start chanting "One of us, One of us"? I was where you are a year ago, but now I am spending all my free time figuring out exactly which colors to pick out for that two-tone wheel skin, and if I should put the trim rings back on to get an extra 0.1 MPG...

One of us! One of us!

Wow, that is some fantastic motorcyling roads. Have you done the dragon? My favorite pastime is riding in the coastal hills here. 84, 35, 9, sweet roads with sweet roads running off them.

When I owned my Mini Cooper we would give the thumbs up to other Mini owners. Plenty of people I know name their cars. A friend of mine has a truck and a Cadillac both with names, I never hear him refer to hi vehicles as the car or the truck its always by name. this friend I speak of is from the hills of West Virginia so I would not call him normal.

Normal is very boring. I usually say that normal is a relative term and you should just SEE my relatives!

When I drove the Carrera, I would do this little 'two finger lift from the steering wheel' or flash the brights to other drivers (but not if they were driving one of the newer water-cooled models; I'm funny that way) and they'd often respond.

In this age of isolation and fragmentation, I think it's nice to have something -- however silly it may appear -- that can bring us together, at least for an instant.

This morning an attractive brunette gave me a nod accompanied with a big smile. I immediately thought I had something in my teeth or she was admiring my new haircut, but it turned out she was in an identical Prius as mine.

hmm. i knew this would become a hot topic based on the title.

nice job on that personal attack, billy. lucky for you, one of the mods deleted it because that's not something to be proud of.

anyway i think that little episode defined you as not-normal too... normal people don't need to go there.

now, go and hit up any other vehicle enthusiast site and tell me you see anything different. it's an enthusiast site, so named for a reason. people who are enthusiastic about their cars come here. self explanatory, i thought...
