Even though my Prius is working fine and shows no code, I was wondering which code reader to buy for

    Prius V 2016 ?

I have impression (searching this forum) that conventional code readers might miss the codes or their

    code nomenclature is different
than the code- reader devices/ instruments at the dealership.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

    Your kind suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks

I bought the older blue Mongoose Pro from Drew Technologies. I pay Toyota their Professional level subscription fee for the right to download the latest Techstream and use it for 2 days. Not very cost effective, the VCI itself cost me $495 or somewhere around there. There's a way to hack it to work ad infinitum, but when I tried to pay for a subscription for the the right to update I could not download the software. Toyota somehow detected the hack and prevented the download even though I paid the subscription fee. If you want a more fixed price solution could possibly try VXDIAG:

2020 New Version VCX SE PRO Diagnostic Tool with 3 Free Car Software

Note they will give a download link and you need to install it. Also note the warning to turn off your virus scanner. On the positive side you get two other vehicle manufacturers that they have available of your choice.

They're legit, I bought a Porsche PIWIS 3 tool from them recently complete with computer. It arrived within one week via DHL. It did not work directly out of the box, but I eventually got it to work by updating VCI software drivers and finally VCI firmware.
